eball Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Fantastic job, Frank. Much to be proud of. Cheers to you, as well as to all who contributed. Bills Mafia indeed. This is a family.
DC Tom Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Now he will have to pay taxes on it ? Time to start a new collection... Bills Mafia indeed. This is a family. We even have bosses here that occasionally order troublemakers whacked...
Big Turk Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Awesome...I know the Talley's are very proud but I think the people who donated honestly would have been hurt if they hadn't accepted them. Glad they decided to take it and use it for whatever they might need.
ChevyVanMiller Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Darryl Talley still can’t fathom the flood of generosity that has washed over him since Thanksgiving. “This is heavy duty, man,” Talley said. “It could very well save my life. http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/talley-family-to-accept-150000-raised-by-supporters-of-the-bills-legend-20141210

ChevyVanMiller Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 I have that tie! Haha, I've worn a different tie each work day this year - over 200+. This was the first one I repeated ( I wore it before the opening home game) but I figured that it was the only one worthy of the interview.
SDS Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 The Talleys will need to measure twice and cut once for the forseeable future. One wrong purchase (new car, etc...) and the PR could become messy. I hope they navigate this well...
GG Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Now he will have to pay taxes on it ? No taxes on gifts received.
plenzmd1 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) No taxes on gifts received. Well, standard gift exemption is now something like $13,000 i thought...but i am certainly no expert as i have never gifted , or been gifted, squadoosh The Talleys will need to measure twice and cut once for the forseeable future. One wrong purchase (new car, etc...) and the PR could become messy. I hope they navigate this well... I agree. My gut tells me they use this money for all good though. Gift recipient pays no tax. That's why these sites are great - there's a clear paper trail of thousands of smlal donations that add up to a big number. So if somebody contributed more than $13K, they owe the tax, not Talleys. Suck it up IRS. Edited December 11, 2014 by GG
USMCBillsFan Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I thought one of the articles said they would draw only a portion of the money this year and the rest next year for tax purposes? I don't know about it either. Hope they don't get pounded with taxes.

26CornerBlitz Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Cheers to kind Bills fans; jeers to Kaepernick deserters In the latest edition of the Around The NFL End Around, Dan Hanzus looks back at a week that saw Niners fans lose patience in Colin Kaepernick, and Bills fans reach out to an old star in need. Hero(es) of the Week: Empathetic Bills fans Darryl Talley has accepted nearly $153,000 in donations from Bills fans who held a impromptu fund raiser for the retired linebacker. In a recent newspaper profile, Talley revealed significant mental and physical issues he believes is connected to his hard-hitting playing days.

One wrong purchase (new car, etc...) and the PR could become messy. I hope they navigate this well... Agreed. They'll be under a microscope. Honestly, one stop at Starbucks when 7-11 coffee would have done the job will bring out many haters. Of course I didn't envy him when I read the original BN article. I don't evny him any more now. I gave my $56 not hoping he would spend it in any particular way but more to show that he had support. There will certainly be others that judge my decision to give and question every penny spent by the Talleys.
