KD in CA Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Oh, no! Global Cooling! No, no, no!! It's just the 'temporary lull' before the real Global WarmingTM kicks in and melts all the ice by 2014 2020!!
DC Tom Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 They're measuring "extent?" Yeah...I'm calling bull ****, until I see a measurement of area AND thickness.
Chef Jim Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 They're measuring "extent?" Yeah...I'm calling bull ****, until I see a measurement of area AND thickness. So you want to see length and girth Tom? Ok, whatever blows your skirt up.

IDBillzFan Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Sweet mother of all stupidity. WAPO: Obama tells Coast Guard graduating class that global warming is responsible for the rise of Boko Harem. "...yet what we also know is that severe drought helped to create the instability in Nigeria that was exploited by the terrorist group Boko Harem. It's now believed that drought and crop failures and high food prices helped fuel the early unrest in Syria, which descended into civil war in the heart of the Middle East..." Someone. Please. Make it stop.
....lybob Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Nice chart. Makes everything look like a rounding error. I think the graphs here are more readable http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/

DC Tom Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I think the graphs here are more readable http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/ I particularly like the interactive graph. Using the same "Oh my God, we're all gonna die from this trend!" analytical process they use on current data, we entered an ice age in 2004...

That doesn't mean it's a wholly inaccurate statement however. No. What makes it a wholly inaccurate statement is that Boko Haram caused the instability in Nigeria by interfering with drought relief. Obama's statement is reversing cause and effect. His statement on Syria is just patently ridiculous. Four years ago, the "early unrest" in Syria was part of the "Arab Spring" that he took credit for.

Nanker Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 and... he went on to say if they're climate change "deniers", they're derelict in their duty! Nice. Pot calling the kettle black, I say.
GaryPinC Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Nice chart. Makes everything look like a rounding error. That in itself says a lot about volume changes. This is PIOMAS arctic ice volume graph which is what you wanted to see. While the graph does leave a lot to be desired it does show the last 6 years of data and if you bothered to track the individual years you get a sense that volume has been building since 2012 and that 2015 volume has held up very well considering we set a record low for maximum extent(area) this winter. Here's a modeled volume trend graph from the same source: http://psc.apl.uw.edu/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/schweiger/ice_volume/BPIOMASIceVolumeAnomalyCurrentV2.1.png The polar science center appears to be the primary source of arctic ice volume calculations. My apologies. Up to this point I have assumed you possess sufficient intelligence to discern the important points from a messy but still useful graph. I think the graphs here are more readable http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/ That is extent, not volume.
B-Man Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 http://www.nationalreview.com/article/418751/climate-science-and-politics-are-diverging-rupert-darwall On Climate, Science and Politics Are Diverging FTA: Global warming is preeminently a political project. On Tuesday, the leaders of France and Germany met to set a goal for the December climate summit in Paris: to fully decarbonize the world economy by the end of the century. It required, Angela Merkel and François Hollande declared, “a profound transformation of the world economy and society.” The role of experts is to provide a scientific consensus to support the drumbeat of alarm. When the president of America declares climate change an immediate threat to national security and accuses skeptics of “negligence” and “dereliction of duty,” scientific skepticism becomes an enemy of the state. The shrillness of the president’s rhetoric draws attention to the weakness of the science. The true believers have given up trying to win over the undecided.

B-Man Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 New Explanation for The Warming PauseWe’ve reported before on various explanations for the current “pause” in global warming that we’re told us not happening, now going on for nearly 18 years. According a study published last week in Nature Geoscience, the culprit may be the Indian Ocean: The Indian Ocean may be the dark horse in the quest to explain the puzzling pause in global warming, researchers report on 18 May in Nature Geoscience. The study finds that the Indian Ocean may hold more than 70% of all heat absorbed by the upper ocean in the past decade. More at the link: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2015/05/new-explanation-for-the-warming-pause.php But remember: it’s all settled science, so shut up and pay up your carbon tax. .
