Climate Change : Heating Up To Fahrenheit 451

From the Portland Tribune: http://portlandtribune.com/sl/307848-185832-portland-school-board-bans-climate-change-denying-materials

In a move spearheaded by environmentalists, the Portland Public Schools board unanimously approved a resolution aimed at eliminating doubt of climate change and its causes in schools.

“Eliminating doubt”. Unanimously, naturally.

To teach the science of climate change is, of course, fine. To teach the cult of climate change is not.

To quote Richard Feynman, a man who knew a bit about what being a scientist involved: “Religion is a culture of faith; science is a culture of doubt”.

Back to the Portland Tribune:

The resolution passed Tuesday evening calls for the school district to get rid of textbooks or other materials that cast doubt on whether climate change is occurring and that the activity of human beings is responsible. The resolution also directs the superintendent and staff to develop an implementation plan for “curriculum and educational opportunities that address climate change and climate justice in all Portland Public Schools.

Get rid of the wrong books.

Teach “climate justice”.

Sounds like the spirit of free inquiry and open debate is alive and well in Portland.

Maybe they should focus on having the kids vaccinated first. The doubt in medical science seems to be a bigger concern than climate change right now.

To teach the science of climate change is, of course, fine.

I have to disagree. It is no more appropriate to attempt to teach high school kids about climate change then it is to attempt to teach calculus to an 8th grader. To understand the global warming hypothesis one needs, at the very least, a basic understanding of physics (specifically thermodynamics and quantum mechanics), chemistry, calculus, and statistics. Although there may be a small minority of high school students who have taken sufficient AP course in the above disciplines, the vast majority of high school students lack the fundamental science and math proficiency to begin to understand the complexity of the thing we call climate.

Which is exactly why it's taught to younger children who less likely to understand the science but easier to indoctrinate a mindset

White House Declares May 23-27 'Extreme Heat Week'

As part of its efforts to address climate change the Obama administration has designated May 23-27, 2016, as Extreme Heat Week.

According to the White House, the five-day span is dedicated to having federal agencies work with communities to “enhance preparedness for extreme heat events.”

The White House will also host a webinar on Thursday in recognition of the week, “featuring a panel of experts speaking about the growing risks of extreme heat and strategies that can be taken in communities to reduce health impacts.”

They'd probably planned it for last week, then delayed it because it was 20 degrees below normal here...

fta:

And, as the Daily Caller pointed out last week, the federal government has spent billions — close to $100 billion, actually, since just fiscal 2012 — on “science” that is undergirded by failed models. About a month earlier, the Daily Caller also noted that the models were unable to “predict CO2 would green the Western U.S.”

Yet the modeling template marches on, even as, Michaels and Wojick note, “the climate science research that is done appears to be largely focused on improving the models.”

Get that? Climate scientists are spending more energy and resources trying to upgrade their flawed models than they are trying to understand the climate itself. And it’s a good bet that what most climate scientists will consider improved modeling will be programs that predict even greater warmth.

Bleh. What do you think it means to 'upgrade' the models? That seems like exactly what they should be doing. Not everything needs to be spun so horribly.

Get back to me when they start working on solutions. No one seems to want to give up any of the swell things modernity has provided us. Calls for cutting back on such things like air conditioning are met with scorn. Yet none of the scientists are providing any viable answers.

My pool is still closed.

This is going to be the latest I have ever opened it.

Must be global warming.

Climate change. If the climate was not changing, your pool would be open as usual.

Students at Santa Monica College participated in an "EcoSexual Sextravaganza" led by a philosophy professor in which they “married the ocean,” Campus Reform reports.

Amber Katherine, a philosophy professor who helped organize the May 14 event, explained to Campus Reform that the purpose of the “wedding” was to bring about a deeper love for the planet through “ecocentric passion and even lust.”

The ceremony was wrapped in religious language. “Today we stand upon this holy earth and in this sacred space to witness the rite of matrimony between the sea and us all,” proclaimed the “wedding” officiator.

There came a point where “students then made their way down to the water, where they were urged by event organizers to 'consummate' the marriage."

Now if any of them drowns, the ocean can be charged with domestic abuse, and be eligible to vote in Virginia.

This can't be for real. Sure this isn't a Onion deal? People go to university to get brain damaged now apparently. Forget the idea of learning anything actually practical. It's all indoctrination into a weird cult.

If they had any balls they would have married a real ocean like the Atlantic.

An inconvenient 10 years: Al Gore gets more alarmist while the science doesn’t

Former Obama Energy Chief slams EPA climate regulations

Former Assistant Secretary: “The Clean Power Plan (CPP) has been falsely sold as impactful environmental regulation when it is really an attempt by our primary federal environmental regulator to take over state and federal regulation of energy.”

“What is also clear, scientifically and technically, is that EPA’s plan will not significantly impact global emissions.”

“Consider that all of the U.S. annual emissions in 2025 will be offset by three weeks of Chinese emissions. Three weeks. So it is dramatically uneventful. Is this impactful climate regulation? I think not.”

Obviously an uninformed industry stooge.
