Tiberius
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/19/us/politics/republicans-government-shutdown-obama-immigration.html “It’s clear to me that Republican leaders want to work together to keep the government funded,” Mr. Reid said. “I hope Republicans in Congress will reject this brinkmanship. A scorched earth policy is no way to govern. Instead, responsible leaders within the Republican Party need to work with Democrats to complete the business of funding our government, regardless of when the president acts to keep families together.” Some Republicans, however, including Mr. Boehner, have left the possibility of a shutdown on the table. Representative Steve King, Republican of Iowa, an outspoken opponent of an immigration overhaul, is readying legislation to undo whatever action the president takes, as well as to undo the protected status the president has already provided to the young undocumented immigrants brought here as children. You go get those illegals Mr. King! The only thing worse than the poor being able to go see a doctor is illegals existing!
FireChan
How much can the Republicans do from the back of the bus? They don't know how to drive.
B-Man
LOL...............not a surprising thread from one of the remaining kool-aid drinkers, even this watered-down version While I am one of the many, happy posters who do not respond directly to gator's (usual) simplistic spin, and I highly recomend joining me...lol I did want to point out to the board that the "GOP wants to shut down the government" liberal meme has just about run it's course, as if the 2014 midterm elections didn't prove that already to any sentient poster. but don't take my word for it, allow me to "cut and paste" (LOL) the words of 25 year democrat senator Carl Levin Top Democrat: GOP Can Withhold Funding For Obama’s Amnesty Orders A top Senate Democrat lent credibility to conservative efforts to block President Obama’s pending administrative amnesty, explaining that Congress has the authority to withhold funding for presidential initiatives. “It happens all the time,” retiring Senator Carl Levin (D., Mich.) told National Review Online while walking through the Capitol Thursday evening. Levin emphasized the distinction between shutting down the government, as happened last year, and refusing to appropriate money for something. “That’s not uncommon that there’s amendments saying ‘none of the funds in this appropriation bill may be spent for’ — fill in the blank,” Levin said. Republican lawmakers are debating whether to pass legislation funding government for the whole year or for a shorter term. Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.) and other immigration hawks oppose a long-term funding measure because it would provide Obama with the money he needs to implement his executive orders. Instead, they want to pass a short-term bill and then withhold funding for the Department of Homeland Security offices tasked with carrying out the orders. Obama’s spokesman, Josh Earnest, criticized that tactic as “an effort to shut down the government.” Levin disagrees. He described withholding funds for the executive orders on immigration as a standard congressional procedure that should not be confused with shutting down the government. “That’s not slash-and-burn,” he told NRO. “That’s not bringing down the government. That’s a fairly traditional, targeted approach to make a policy point.” http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/392855/top-democrat-gop-can-withhold-funding-obamas-amnesty-orders-joel-gehrke
Doc
They'll do what Levin says. Then the ball will be in Barry's court. If he chooses to shut down the government, it's on him. Not that the last shut down hurt the Repubs come mid-terms time.
IDBillzFan
The left is about to find out just how much of this country despises Barack Obama and the progressive left. He's going to pull the trigger on this amnesty bit the minute he gets word the Ferguson verdict is in. While he's announcing his blank check to 5 million illegals, the community organizers in Ferguson will pull the first trigger on the cops and businesses...and with illegals running rampant and businesses burning in Ferguson while Americans get slaughtered by Palestinians and ISIS, Jimmy Carter will be glued to his TV eating a bucket of popcorn with the biggest smile you've ever seen. And then the Keystone pipeline will come and save the day! It will declare martial law and restore law and order and bring back all the aborted fetuses from the grave or wherever they are and make an army of them. Chris Christie will try and eat them but the good people--ignorant Conversative Republicans--will stop him and throw the Obama loving governor of NJ off a bridge and elected Joe the Plumber president on a promise to eliminate all governments, and health care and gun laws and environments and everything and the Keystone pipeline will be a hero until it's discovered its gay and the party will be over

OCinBuffalo
Ah....Keystone Pipeline. Government Shutdown. War on Women. Global Warming. Affordable health care for all. Remember the days when these issues were taken seriously by some/many voters? It's fun to be nostalgic. Remember the Greek columns in Denver? But, that's all this is. Nostalgia. It doesn't work, and the Democrats are out of "new", "progressive" ideas. Largely because, other than Global Warming, all their ideas were/are at least 50 years old. Now that Global Warming is done. There's nothing left. Again: you don't win elections on nothing, and Harry Reid saw to it that neither the president or Congress has done/voted on anything since 2010. The Great Distraction is over. Now, the actual Big Issues: Foreign Policy, National Debt, Entitlement Reform, Tax Reform, and the newly added Fix the Obamacare ClusterF, Government Accountability-->Reduction, will dominate, and Democrats will inevitably lose on all of those issues. This is why the Great Distraction was necessary. It is also why: Immigration Reform is being raised, yet again, as an attempt to stave off the Big Issues. The fact that playing with millions of lives for political cover is beyond cynical? Whatever. This administration is the most cynical I've ever seen. You have to go back to Woodrow Wilson to find this kind of cynicism, and blatant disregard for the Constitution and the will of the American people. Democrats can't sell it, but not because we weren't in the market. No. They used slimy, used car saleman tactics, and got caught. Now, nobody trusts them, and they shouldn't. Keukasmallies
Golly, I'd be just sick if anything interfered with the smooth well-oiled operation of our national government. Whatever would we do if our elected officials were distracted from their attention to the welfare, wants and needs of the citizens of this glorious nation?
