reddogblitz Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) I hate the idea of starting all over again, but this is not your dad's NFL. Changes come much more quickly and with all the parity, you can go from crap to champs in a very short time. With all the movement in players, coaching is much more important than it used to be. I hope to see a change next year. If we had poor talent, I'd give the staff a break, but there are some really good football players on our team that are not going to stick around if this keeps up. I can think of 3 to 5 teams in recent years who had decent under performing talent and then got a new (experienced NFL) coach and completely turned it around in short order. Arizona Cardinals with Arians. Detroit Lions with Caldwell. 49ers with Hardball. One could also add the Colts if you really believe they were bad and not just sucking for Luck on purpose (my opinion). The Eagles with Chip Kelly. The Clowns maybe, too early to tell. If we get a good coach, and they will be available this off season, we could make a quick turn around with the talent on this team. We had plenty of candidates that wanted the job in 2013 and we will again in 2015 should we enter the HC market with I hope we do. There should be no need to "tear down" and "rebuild" with good coaching. As far as records, Coach Marrone now has a winning % lower than Mike Mularkey and .002 ahead of Dick Jauron. All of our coaches (including future hypothetical hires such as Cowher and Harbaugh and on and on) will net this same result where you will claim they are the worst ever and dumb and gutless and inept, and then one day....one magical day we will acquire a Franchise QB and our coach will have a shot. You know this is true to a degree, but are Carson Palmer, Alex Smith, Drew Stanton, Mark Sanchez, Brian Hoyer, and Nick Foles franchise QBs? Their coaches seem to be able to win with them. I will say it until im blue in the face Schwartz Schwartz Schwartz. I don't want Schwartz anywhere near being HC of the Buffalo Bills. His teams in Detroit were fat with talent yet under performed and regularly lost games due to being undisciplined. He got them to the playoffs once and lost. Then he gets fired and they hire Caldwell and are now one of the best teams in the NFL. Schwartz, no thanks. We can do better. Edited November 14, 2014 by reddogblitz
turbotype87 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I feel sorry for the DEFENSE, they paly there hearts out every week just to walk away with loses. Marrone in my opinion has no clue on how to run a offense. We haven't had a good QB for along time. Jim Kelly was a great competitor who new how to win. Orton is not the answer. I watch this team and there looks like there is no emotion from any of the players on offense? Until our offense is as good as our defense, We will never make the playoffs period. EJ Manuel i believe is not a NFL Starting caliber QB.
starrymessenger Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Who do you think drives Hackett's play calling with the underlying philosophy? It's none other than our illustrious HC Doug Marrone. A new OC would still be stuck with Marrone's outdated thinking. They both must be escorted from the bus together. Bon Voyage Gents. Honestly I'm amazed that some people fail to see this.
SectionC3 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Marrone acts like a bully but coaches like a wimp. What makes the last two games so frustrating is that we had a chance to take a huge step toward breaking the playoff drought, and instead of going down "swinging" we went with our tails between our legs. I'm a pretty conservative guy by nature, but if I'm the pegulas Marrone is out of here barring a miracle finish.
norton20 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Marrone deserves to be fired. He is supposed to be an offensive minded head coach but after two years we still havent established an identity on offense. -Talked about running super fast no huddle offense last year with EJ. Backfired -Talked about a power running game this year with EJ as game manager. Backfired -Keeping Urbik on the bench for half the season while Cyril Richardson was a turnstyle at guard. -Never able to utilize Spiller to his skill set -Sammy Watkins has back to back 30 yard games in the two most critical games of the season. -Focused all offseason on improving red zone offense, and we are worse at it than a year ago. -Focused all offseason on improving interior line play, and we are worse at it than a year ago. -Stunted develpment of 2nd round pick Robert Woods -Marquis Goodwin a 3rd round pick might as well be off the roster -Mike Williams is not being utilized in the red zone, after he spent all training camp dominating DBs on fade routes. -Conservative when he should be aggressive. -Has not been able to establish a winning culture -Hes ultra secretive to the media, and refuses to discuss injuries. the guys out of tricks. His love for Hackett has cost him his dream job...which he probably wasnt qualified for in the first place. And to think that we could have had Chip Kelly. The bills are stuck in the stone age, and by the time they figure out a winning formula our D line wont be nearly as good.....such a waste Idk how guys like Fred Jackson and Kyle Williams deal with this mediocrity. Year after year. Idk how I as a fan deal with this mediocrity. Year after year. All I wanted was meaningful football in December, and once again, our season is over before thanksgiving. I agree with all of it except the part about Chip Kelly. There was no way on God's green earth he was coming here. Buffalo is NOT a destination for hot coaches and big name coaches. Maybe that will change with Pegula in place but I wouldn't count on it. They want nothing to do with this place. At the time, with Ralph still alive and the Toronto series going, it was a non starter with him. Fans are delusional about Cowhers and Shanahans etc. With regard to Marrone, I think everything you said is true. i'd add that he has espoused an approach that any big guy guard will do and he can make something out of them. How has that worked out?
