26CornerBlitz Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Doug Marrone: Going back to EJ Manuel 'hasn't crossed my mind' In his first few starts Orton exceeded expectations, but he's come crashing back to earth at a scorching pace. Defenses have figured him out, realizing he struggles to hit the deep throws and is not the most accurate on short-to-intermediate throws. Still, when you consider how anemic the Bills' offense was under Manuel it would be difficult to go back to the second-year player and keep the locker room.
Garranimal Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 The last thing EJ should want is to get back on the field this season. In doing so he will likely end up cut by next season....whereas if he sits on the bench through the end of the year, he can collect another year's salary before he is quietly escorted out of the league.
taterthegator Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 We are in purgatory. We have two QB's both offering mediocre play at best and no first round pick. We are screwed for two more years at best, and we won't be able to keep all of the defensive pieces together waiting for the Offense to catch up. We will avoid the cellar this year, and only avoid being one of the worst teams thanks to the Raiders... It feels hopeless.
Billsguy Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 We're not making the playoffs. Why not get him some more experience? Absolutely, EJ needs to start and here is why: 1.) Kyle Orton is not the long term answer at QB. In my view, he is a stop gap QB who had a chance of somehow giving this team a shot at the playoffs. Now that this fantasy is almost entirely gone, he needs to sit down. The Bills should definitely not re-sign Orton past this year! He is certainly not worthy of anything longer than a one year deal. 2.) The Bills need to find out if EJ Manuel can be a winning QB for the long term so he definitely needs to start. The Bills management needs to see with their own eyes that the team blundered when they chose him in the 1st round. Only by playing Manuel will they realize that they must find a new QB with long term potential. Imho, EJ Manuel doesn't have the winning aptitude for being a successful top quality NFL QB. The team must admit their mistake and turn the page rather than wasting two or thee more years trying to develop him into a QB. 3.) If the Bills let EJ Manuel sit the rest of the season with the hope that next year he will develop into something, they will have wasted another year. The time is now to let him play and come to the conclusion that he is not the answer. It's too bad they don't have a number 1 pick next year, but that is another error that will be imprinted on the Bills legacy of failure. The ray of hope is Terry and Kim Pegula. If they realize that the current management and coaches are inept and incompetent, they will hire top quality people to turn the organization into a winning one eventually. If they stick with the empty suit known as Russ Brandon then they will struggle for many more years.

negativo Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Orton is doing a great job of playing himself out of a job. Another clunker loss and might as well put EJ back in. No pressure for making the playoffs anymore, so why not. Playoffs? PLAYOFFS??
auburnbillsbacker Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 One more loss and the Bills should go back to EJ. I think the coaching staff would lose the locker room if they made the switch now.
negativo Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 There is a reason Tebow beat out Orton in Denver. Orton is a great practice QB, and can light it up as a backup off the bench, but he melts under the white hot spotlight as starter. Some QB's are better suited as backups, and Orton is one.
Rivermont Mike Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Yeah, this is the part of the script where Marrone is "coaching for his job" and will ride the horse that gets him the most Ws (which is in question right now). He has NO vested interest in EJ at this point. Why would he further pulverize the shards of his broken reputation that remain? On the other hand, the front office (the way front office, as in Pegulas) wants to see if EJ is the real deal or a bust, so they reach through the HC and force the EJ start. That sends a clear message to the team that the HC's days are numbered, and the rest of the season is a hot mess. On the other hand, you get to see some of the younger players and set up for 2015. Prickly Pete Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 EJM still hasn't EARNED the job yet. Also the players need a little time to divorce from Orton. The players had to suddenly switch loyalties to Orton, and now they are expected to accept EJM again, out of the blue? That's not the best way to reintroduce the Prodigal Son. Let the players learn to loathe Orton, then after 2-3 games, let EJM have his shot.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 @BuffRumblings #Bills fans still want to bench Kyle Orton for EJ Manuel by just short of a 2 to 1 margin. http://www.buffaloru...-for-ej-manuel

Dirtbag Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 No sane person is voting for Jeff FN Tuel. there are people on this board right now arguing that the bills ineptitude for the past decade+ is due to a shadowy, vast conspiracy -- an unholy cabal of business interests, the nfl, players, refs, the mafia, broadcast networks all targeting our hometown team. i'm pretty sure tuel would get some votes.
fridge Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 After having given this much thought...I do not want to see EJ Manuel play another game with Nate Hackett and Doug Marrone as his coaches. They have PROVEN WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT that they are incapable of playing to players' strengths. They are ill-equipped to properly manage and prepare a game plan that doesn't fit within their crappy Syracuse playbook.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I just wanted to point out that Orton is already signed for next year. Its a players option for $5m, my guess is he will pick up the option to make $5m for sucking.
