C.Biscuit97 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Watching the Eagles destroy the Panthers is a nice reminder of what good coaches can do for a team. As Bills fans, we seem to have to settle for things. I was the biggest apologist for Dick Jauron. Well now, we have a bigger Dick Jauron as a coach. Conservative with no imagination. Contrast this with the Eagles. They lose their pro bowl QB and are even better. EJ Manuel's first 14 games: 58.6%, 16 tds, 12 ints, 6.43 ypa, 78.5 qb rating (I think QBR is a better stat but couldn't find an overall average). http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/15803/ej-manuel Mark Sanchez' first 15 games: 53.8%, 6.71 ypa, 12 tds, 20 ints, 63 qb rating. http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/12482/mark-sanchez Well, Sanchez looks like a new player on Philly. Why I bring up EJ is because the Eagles wanted to draft him. http://www.csnphilly.com/football-philadelphia-eagles/ej-manuel-eagles-they-want-me-pretty-bad They also wanted Spiller. The overall point is coaching matters. Especially on offense. Coaches like Kelly, Sean Payton, and Bruce Arians (he has played 3 Qbs this year) seem to bring the most out of their talent. Players have regressed on our offense. There is not a doubt in my mind with a better offensive coaching staff, this is a playoff team. Our defense is SB caliber. If we miss the playoffs, it will simply be because our offense failed us. Playoffs or Sumlin in 2015.
Boatdrinks Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Yes Marrone has failed to impress thus far. His worst mistake though was not hiring a quality Offensive coordinator and letting the guy make him look good. That's part of being a good HC sometimes. He made a good hire with Pettine, then Schwartz. Marrone seems loyal ( and grudge holding .. See Williams, Mike) to a fault. It will probably spell his demise.
Fixxxer Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 We shall see if Sanchez can maintain this level of consistency.

Marrone has been great at hiring DCs. I credit him for that. That was Gailey's downfall. But why as a first time NFL coach you hire a 2 year Syracuse guy as your OC is beyond me. Hackett should be at best a running backs coach.
rumblefish Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 looks like Sanchez is proving the wrong guy left the Jets, all the Ryan clan knows how to do is "sucker punch" and they don't do that well either
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I used to track a stat. The odds of a decent backup winning his first game after a long stint on the bench was over 80%. Time will tell if Sanchez is better than he was in his final seasons with the NYETS
Hapless Bills Fan Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 We shall see if Sanchez can maintain this level of consistency. Indeed. The backup QB is always the most popular guy in town, especially if the team is struggling. He comes in off the bench, there's no film on him, everyone is pumped by the change, if he's even competent it's Winner Winner Chicken Dinner. 3-5 games later will tell the tale. I used to track a stat. The odds of a decent backup winning his first game after a long stint on the bench was over 80%. Time will tell if Sanchez is better than he was in his final seasons with the NYETS How many games do you have to bench a guy to get those odds? Another example would be San Fran under Harbaugh. Alex Smith looked like another 1st round bust under his previous coaches. Harbaugh walks in, Alex Smith looks so good it's like "WTF?" when he's benched for Kaep (except then after a few games, it's "OK then"). Yep, coaching matters.
