I'm not sure of the number but it is quite a bit. Dibs is the best on here with that and hopefully he will chime in. Fitz's money comes off for 1. The Bills will be near the top of the league in available space.

Before or after we pay our own players?

Yes! We need a upper tier Quarterback.

But the larger issue is we have not had an upper tier COACH in almost 20 years!

We never did, Marv Levy is the undisputed winner of the most non deserving person in the HOF, it was all Bill Polian, and all about the talented players, and had very little to do with Levy. Polian left and this franchise fell apart. Levey let the team get old, started losing, and quit.

He then cam back as was pathetic as a talent evaluator, proving he did very little in choosing the players when he was the coach.

He sucked.

So it's firing the coaching staff? I don't have a ton of confidence in anyone but Schwartz (and the other defensive coaches).

I have never seen an organization where the GM reported the the head coach. I have seen situations where the head coach reports to the GM or to the president but the org chart doesn't work the other way. If you are hiring someone like that you will be letting go of Whaley as well.

If you are hiring someone as more of a consultant to review the football operations department I am more than a little confident that Whaley will receive glowing reviews. The people that I know in the NFL outside of the Bills (Saints, Steelers & Eagles) think that he is outstanding. Obviously you can take Pittsburgh with a grain of salt because that's where he came from.

Not sure how accurate this is:

They can easily gain more cap space too...Mario can be re-structured, Marcell can get a contract extension, Mike Williams comes off the books easily (just don't pay his roster bonus--no dead money involved), Spiller met his exemptions and comes off, Chandler and Chris Williams can be cuts...right there that's another $22M or so...so you're looking at the very real potential of being $40M or so under the cap.

Before but there will still be a good bit. Again, I wish that I knew the numbers a little better. Fitz comes off as does Stevie/Mike Williams. There is some $ rolled over also.

I was expecting to be flamed out of here. Glad to see others are as angry as me. I left the bar mid way through the 4th quarter having seen this episode many many time before and trimmed my hedges with scissors. I need help.

I was taught if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all.

It would be very nice...they can devote a lot of that space to big up-front payments for Dareus and Hughes. I'd also like to see Searcy and Wynn re-signed, since I don't think it'll cost a ton.

After that, the work in FA isn't much. Go get a starting guard (my guy is Clint Boling of Cincinnati), a pass rusher (I like Schofield from Seattle), and maybe a third "starting" safety that would allow Searcy to be more of a specialist (say, Gilchrist from San Diego). They may also need to commit to Hairston as a swing OT (can't count on Kouandjio), and either sign Urbik or bring in a replacement to be the backup G/C on game days.

Agree on all fronts and I'd like to see them go after one of those guys that are called tight ends. It's something new and exciting but has yet to reach Buffalo. I doubt that Cameron or Julius are options but Gresham, Clay and Donnell should all get some consideration.

Totally agree!! What is a young team with a .500 or better record and worlds of cap space to do? They are surely going to go go from 8-10 wins to 4 the next year! I mean add Kiko to that defense, that should subtract a couple of wins.

I'm not saying the world is ending, but adding Kiko makes absolutely zero difference in terms of wins or losses.

They need a QB and some offensive guards...that is it, every resource needs to be put into that this offseason.

(And, hopefully, a new offensive coaching staff that belongs in the NFL...not a NCAA staff from a horrible football school.)

Yup, Kiko hype clouds reality for most.

Maybe and maybe not, Kiko has a nose for the football. The game yesterday and the Houston game could have had a different result with 1 play. I don't think that it is impossible to think that he may have made a play in one of those games (specifically vs. Fitz). The other 2 losses they were handled in.

I absolutely want a TE; I just want to draft one. I'm not thrilled with the FA crop myself.

I think the place where they've missed Kiko's instinctiveness the most is in allowing QBs to run for 1st downs on broken plays. They've suffered 2 or 3 of those per game.

I don't love the FA class either but for some reason I like Gresham. I dont particularly like the draft class. The Bills have to get a starting caliber TE one way or another.

Great point on Kiko. That 4th down play yesterday or even the Alex Smith TD could have been the play that he made to change the outcome. They miss his range and playmaking ability.

What does that mean? I see a lot of that on here but no clear definition. Fire everybody? Cut guys? Trade guys? What exactly does it mean?

For me if the Bills finish with at least 9 wins I would still replace Hackett. I can't use "playoffs" because they could win 10 games and be in or win 10 games and be out. My assessment will be based on what their team did not the teams around them. If they finish with less than 9 Marrone will be gone with him. In terms of the roster I want to see 2 new guards and at least 1 new TE. They need to extend Dareus and re-sign Hughes. Other than that I don't see too many changes on the horizon. The Bills are a young team heading in the right direction. There is a good bit of talent on this roster now (especially on the defensive side).

They will still try to find a franchise QB but probably will not be able to next year. There is MAYBE 1 in this upcoming draft and not much on the market. A flier on Bradford is possible but Orton has played well enough to prevent that IMO.

I agree with most of this. They def need a TE. The TE at FSU looks like a baller who may be available in the second round. However, they MUST bring in another veteran QB. Orton is decent, but not great. Bradford could be great if he stopped getting injured. I would like to see a training camp competition between Orton and [veteran X] with the other guy serving as the backup.
