HOUSE Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Buffalo’s Signal Caller Is Statistically One of the Best Journeymen in NFL History When the Buffalo Bills replaced EJ Manuel at quarterback with Kyle Orton, they were gambling on a 10-year journeyman faring better than the quarterback they selected in the first round just last year. The gamble has paid off: Orton (pictured right and below) is 3-1 as a starter and has the 5-3 Bills in the playoff hunt. But typically, itinerant quarterbacks move from team to team for a reason: They aren’t good. Since 1950, 17 quarterbacks have started games for five different teams, according to Stats LLC. Orton has started for the Bears, Broncos, Chiefs, Cowboys and Bills. Only six of those 17 quarterbacks have records better than .500 as a starter, including Orton, who is 38-36. When it comes to quarterbacks who aimlessly drift around the league, Jeff Garcia is the gold standard. The former 49er-Brown-Lion-Eagle-Buccaneer-Texan has a 87.5 career passer rating, which is by far the best among quarterbacks to start for five different teams, although he went only 58-58 in his career. Trent Dilfer went 58-55 for five teams and won a Super Bowl with the Ravens, but his 70.2 passer rating makes Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has his fifth starting gig with the Texans this season, look like a Pro Bowler. Since the beginning of his career, no team has really trusted Orton. As a rookie, he went 10-5 and led the Bears to the playoffs despite throwing only nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions. In the playoffs, Chicago benched him in lieu of Rex Grossman and promptly lost to the Panthers. Even as Orton improved, teams never saw him as a franchise quarterback. He threw 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Broncos in 2010, but went 3-10 because Denver had the worst defense in the league. For his career, Orton has thrown 84 touchdowns and 60 interceptions. This year, Orton’s 104.0 passer rating ranks fourth in the NFL. He also ranks in the top five in completion percentage. After signing with the Bills in August, he looks like one of this season’s savviest acquisitions. —Andrew Beaton http://m.wsj.com/articles/kyle-orton-the-greatest-quarterback-that-no-one-wants-1415150975?mobile=y&two-bills-drive

YoloinOhio Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Well apparently there's no love lost with the Chiefs http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2014/11/6/7166601/orton-not-planning-chiefs-reunion
Augie Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I hope the playoffs are on the Journey itinerary.

Augie Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 oh. Thank you, that shed great light on things. Thank you for clearing things up. I'm OK with running the table with a journeyman. (I doubt we win with just a man from Journey, but I could be wrong, our D is tough.)

Augie Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 all I'm saying is... don't stop believin' You DO make a fine point. It would be silly to stop at this moment in time. (I was going to say "at this point", but that's just too many points.)
seq004 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 But John Clayton said he's the best backup at best.
Augie Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) But John Clayton said he's the best backup at best. I've seen his commercial.... he still lives with his mother. Edited November 7, 2014 by Augie
thewildrabbit Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Well apparently there's no love lost with the Chiefs http://www.buffaloru...-chiefs-reunion I really hope he wants some serious revenge against the Chiefs & Broncos. Being cut for Tim Tebow... He went 2-1 at KC, and beat the Broncos with them, and really don't know why they didn't keep him.

bonechiller Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I just don't understand it! Finally a guy that gets "it". He can read a defense, make " all the throws" as they put it. Nobody wants to give him chance, He looks like a winner to me. Seems like a perfect fit in Buffalo, a blue chip kinda guy, not a surfer from Cali! I am definitely sold, hell if nobody else wants him, fine, most don't want us either!

mountainwampus Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Looks like Bengals have a pretty good new starter, Jason Campbell. Good rating, anyway.
HOUSE Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 I remember when when Andy Dalton was the cats eye on this board A major FU by the Bills for passing on this guy.
