YoloinOhio Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/college/acc/university-of-miami/article3485154.html oh boy... Prayers for JK. Never easy.
bbb Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 http://www.miamihera...cle3485154.html Thanks. I've been trying to figure out what the pain and setbacks since September have been about. I can't believe all the stuff he's been through and still going through.
Chilly Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Hadn't seen this posted anywhere yet. From: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11801939/jim-kelly-former-buffalo-bills-qb-tells-miami-herald-mrsa After being declared cancer-free in September, former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly told the Miami Herald that he has developed a staph infection in his bones. Good luck Jim!
Dorkington Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Damn. Hopefully it goes smoothly, and Jimbo is healthy in 8 weeks!
HOUSE Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 This guy can't catch a break. Hopefully this will pass
Chef Jim Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 My wife and I both contracted MRSA when we moved to San Francisco. Painful nasty stuff however nowhere near as bad as Jim. Get well Jim.
Concrete Buffalo Feet Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I also contracted MRSA through a cut on my knee about 7 years ago. Almost lost my leg, very serious stuff!!! Good luck Jim!
Uncle Monkeyhead Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Kelly Tough. Jim will win this one too. Pulling for him
BuffalothruMyVeins Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 MRSA, geez, god's running out of stuff to throw at JK... And for JK to kick it's butt... Let's give JK Ebola and use his antibodies as a cure for the rest of humanity. KEEP ROCKING IT JIM! I don't mean to make light of this, it IS quite serious. Good luck Jim.
Saint Doug Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) This is a fairly serious infection considering he's immunosupressed. While I agree it's MRSA, it's not likely the variety that pervades locker rooms (community acquired), but rather hospital-acquired, which tends to be more virulent. He'll need IV antibiotics for 1-2 months, but should kick this. Edited November 1, 2014 by Saint Doug

Rocky Landing Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 For my 50th birthday this year, the Universe gave me a staph infection on my scrotum. (That's right, my SCROTUM!!!) It was awful. It ended up taking about five weeks to get rid of, and the potent antibiotics I was on was like eating poison twice daily. It took about three months before I felt like myself again. Of course, what JK has is quite a bit more serious-- certainly life threatening, and the antibiotics are going to kick his ass. My thoughts are with him.
Rubes Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Tough stuff. These are the things I treat all the time, and they can be very tough when they get into the bone. Often they don't cause tremendous discomfort (unlike scrotal MRSA, good heavens), but it's very hard to eliminate infections once they get into the bone, even with antibiotics. Usually it requires surgery to debride the infected bone as well. He'll try a two month course of antibiotics and see how it goes, and hopefully we don't hear about it again.
Andrew Son Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Unbelievable. Guy can't catch a break. What's next, Ebola? Get well Jim
Augie Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 For my 50th birthday this year, the Universe gave me a staph infection on my scrotum. (That's right, my SCROTUM!!!) It was awful. It ended up taking about five weeks to get rid of, and the potent antibiotics I was on was like eating poison twice daily. It took about three months before I felt like myself Prayers and best wishes for Jimbo. And of course, we're all happy your scrotum has bounced back. My son was shot in a car jacking attempt a couple months ago. The bullet went through his arm, then his leg then.... guess where it lodged. You got it! The urologist wanted to leave it there for fear of complications. He later changed his mind and now catching a flight is much simpler. All good thoughts for Jim and his family and friends.
Mr. WEO Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 What operation did Jim have after the September biopsies?
