Garion
Don't give us facts when this board is hyped on last weeks game without any recall of the previous games when Orton was averaging around 40 passes a game. That's logic or something man it's not allowe around here. Everyone mad about running try and remember what this Bills team looked like with Manuel as the QB. Then look up how many sacks we have given up per game since Orton took over (hint its A LOT) then ask yourself if you want to run the risk Orton gets hurt. frogger
Has anyone calculated out KO's stats to a full season? 36 tds 4500 yards passing And 60+ sacks Some good stats, some bad One thing I like, when he knows he's going to be sacked he moves forward to minimize the yardage
GunnerBill
Those who think running the football is good then just look at our record was last year when we were second in the league in rushing. This is a passing league, and even the teams that are good and run the football reaily are passing but have a running QB.Pass the football on Sunday more and your starters are on the bench by the end of the 3rd.Good teams the make the playoffs year after year are passing the football.Caveman football is done. Except there has been a move back to the run in recent years. The 49ers and the Seahawks run the ball. New England at the tail end of last season ran the ball with Blount, the Eagles ran a lot last year, and Chiefs ran a lot too. The Cowboys have suddenly become a better team running the ball with DeMarco Murray. The days of teams running 60% of the time are done, I agree. But the fundamentals of football in the NFL (rather than on Madden) remain the same - you have to run the ball and stop the run to win. That way your offense remains balanced and your defense makes their offense one dimensional. The Bills need to be balanced on offense. The issue last year was not calling too many runs, it was not completing enough of the passes attempted and even fewer of the passes that travelled more than 10 yards in the air. One thing I like, when he knows he's going to be sacked he moves forward to minimize the yardage And on Sunday he actually held on to the football too. Him getting sacked because the line isn't great and he does have a tendency to hold onto it a bit too long is something I can live with. Him dropping the ball once a game when being sacked will hurt us long term. I'm sure the coaches must be on him to cover the ball up when he is going down... because if he does he can lead us to the play-offs.
bobobonators
I look at it this way: focus on what you do well and try and get really really good at it. Last year we were good at running the ball. Despite our greatness at rushing, we were limited by a rookie QB - it happens. This year it looks like we can't run effectively (especially now with injuries) but since Orton has been at QB our passing game has greatly improved and should continue to improve with chemistry and young WR's continuing to evolve. Though we shouldn't become a pass-happy team, I definitely think the focus should start to tilt towards the pass game a bit and away from the running game, which ironically may end up helping the run game.
