My plan would be Preston Brown to MLB, Kiko to Will, and Bradham as the Sam.

Rivers stays as a backup, and (hopefully) add another pass rusher so that Lawson can move back to LB and provide both depth and another guy that can play on passing downs since he can cover and blitz.

As our d-line has demonstrated, depth is not a bad thing.

- Kiko makes his planned move to his natural position, WLB.

- Bradham stays at SLB.

- Brown slides to MLB, which is his natural position.

- Spikes comes in for Brown on base 4-3 running downs, and comes in as the true MIC in goalline sets with 4-4 and 5-2 or 3 personel.

By inserting Spikes into the lineup it allows you to spell any of the other three, by shuffeling them around, without a letdown in the quality of play.

Now, will it happen?

Who knows...

There's always the question of how comfortable Spikes would be in that role. There's also a question of how well Kiko recovers, as well as the continued development of Randall Johnson and Ty Powell, as well as Kieth Rivers presence on the roster.

I've gotta say though, it sure is a nice problem to have.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. They will most likely let him slowly adjust back by limiting plays for 2-3 weeks.

It's a two-way street. Spikes may not want to stick around if he's not getting the playing time he wants. He probably believes he's a full-time, three-down starter, and wants to get paid as such. If the market agrees, I'm sure he'd want to be elsewhere.

I dont know we will see. Winning and playing on a defense like ours cures a lot of problems.

I think the key isn't Kiko or Spikes, it's Schwartz. He'll want to leave if there's any HC job available. I hope there's someone on his staff who is picking up his system and who won't follow him to Schwartz's next job as (dare I say it?) HC of the New Jersey Jets.

I'm not terribly worried; the team has 2 former DCs on staff right now in Donnie Henderson and Fred Pagac, and an up-and-coming DC in Pepper Johnson.

If Schwartz leaves, they'll have a familiar face to work with the players, and whoever they choose will have a year of experience in two very effective defensive schemes. Most importantly though, the personnel will still be very good, provided they pony up the cash to keep Jerry Hughes.

bradham cant cover a tight end. Alonso & brown can.

weak- Alonso

strong- Brown

middle- Bradham

OK, the reason they call it the weak side is that that's where the tight end is NOT lined up. So if you want Alonso to cover the TE I see a problem right there. But I agree, Kiko is built to run, and he might be the Gronk solution in time.

Yeah, I think Hughes will be the first salary cap victim. Jarius Wynne will be next year's Hughes. I love Hughes, I think stealing him for ...gosh I can never remember that guy's name... is a major reason the D is so good this year. But there's too much money on the D line and too many holes on the O line. Something has to give.

I really dont think it is a forgone conclusion that Spikes is gone next year.....

- What are people afraid of......a ridiculous contract? Spikes might just like it here and take a good deal

- Both Brown and Spikes optimal position is MLB....BUT....Brown is showing he can play MULTIPLE positions.........so you could play Spikes on running downs and Brown on passing downs...then you also have depth at the OLB position should something bad happen

Why get rid of good players?

I'd like to keep Spikes too. yes, he's one dimensional, but the guy is good at what he does. He'd be a good situational/rotational LB at the right price. He seems to be enjoying his time here as per his recent tweet after the win.

Brown has really impressed so far. A. Williams is a stud at safety. Man this D is good.

kiko can cover a TE when the opposing team lines up with double TE's

Spikes might not get resigned, although if he was willing to be a running down specialist I could see him coming back for a modest amount. So Brown and Brandham stay in their roles while Kiko takes the other OLB spot. As hard as it would be to let Spikes go I would think getting Dareus a long term extension along with resigning Hughes would be cap money better spent. Kiko if he can stay healthy would be a big addition to the defense next year.

Guys - kikomis meant for the Wil just like a Derrick Brooks. He wasn't powerful enough to handle the Guards which is contributing factor to the running on us last year. He will be much better in space, chasing down Gronk, picking people off, and versatile.

Brown and don't write off Spikes for next year at the Sam. They can work interchangeably, and we always need depth (see Fredex and Spiller- we Eed depth).

Bradham will do an awesome job at the Sam. I'd rather have Lawson then Rivers backing up.

This is a no brainer. For those that are football coaches in high school, even pop Warner, can you imagine this defense with Kiko at the Wil. We'd be even better, but Kiko is NOT a Mic LB. he just overachieved.

Don't rad into this message as he is one of our most talented players on the defense. He is just meant for a 4-3 Wil, that's all. I love the guy.

Derrick Brooks was an all time great and I don't want to bestow that upon Kiko just yet. I've said on here many times before that Kiko as the Will in a 4-3 could be Lance Briggs.

Multi time All Pro tackling machine on a consistently very good to dominant unit. Basically free to use his instincts and just play.

MLB = Brown/Spikes

SLB = Bradham

WLB = Kiko

That seemed simple enough to me. Like every other position, we need depth.

Not sure who goes where but I would say it's a lock Spikes is not here next year (too one dimensional).

disagree. But he wont get a juicey contract here as a packaged player. Bills could still make use of him but less reps. maybe a lot less depending on the team Bills are up against. One thing to keep in mind is the rib injury. Its still hampering him i think

They were going to move Kiko to the outside despite the monster year he had at MLB in 2013. Preston Brown has taken the spot Kiko would have had this season and is doing very well. Brad-ham, despite his penalties yesterday, has been very good this season and Brandon Spikes might just re-up for next year.

So... Who sits? Kiko has to be on the field - that's a given. Preston has played 99% (if not 100%) of snaps this season. You put Kiko back in the middle and let Spikes walk? Put Brad-ham back on the bench? Go back to a 3-4?

Talk to me.

Brown goes to the MLB. he is already play calling and has the build and downhill mentality .

Still on the fence about Bradham .

Hybrid 3-4 ? hmm.

all things to consider in good time

Just don't let Schwartz leave.

I think he is a locker room leader. He is bonding this team together....something Mario or Kyle could not do. May be Kiko will step up and be that player.
