Alaska Darin Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I am still very concerned at the number of guys running full speed WFO underneath. The JETS QBs are terrible but the elite guys in the game will exploit that over and over and over again.
Formerly Allan in MD Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 We absolutely should have blitzed Brady more. He had a field day at our laughable "pressure." To those who say it wouldn't have mattered, it would have if our schemes were right and, of course, we had a bit of luck. A prevent defense philosophy (don't commit personnel to blitzing, which will create openings) against quarterbacks like Brady will not "prevent;" they're too good.
GunnerBill Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Did Pettine blitzing him all the time on the final game winning drive last year work then? You beat Brady by confusing him, not by blitzing him. Edited October 27, 2014 by GunnerBill
GG Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Did Pettine blitzing him all the time on the final game winning drive last year work then? You beat Brady by confusing him, not by blitzing him. You don't blitz all the time. Part of the reason that Ryan and Lebeau run great defenses is that the QB doesn't know where the pressure will be coming from. Schwartz did dial up a few blitzes against Brady and they worked to force hurried throws. They should definitely be part of the regular playcalls, especially with the DBs playing as well as they have been. Edited October 27, 2014 by GG
GunnerBill Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Of course some blitzing has to be part of the confusion. I have never said otherwise. But you don't have to blitz him too often, because few are better at diagnosing it and finding their safety valve.
