We absolutely do not need him back at the end of the year as we don't need to injure his knee again. Our defense is doing well without him, and with a full year off, he should come back strong and really add to the defense next year.

 

Besides he wasn't designated as IR projected to return, so whether he's better or not, he's not coming back.

He's actually not on IR, he is on the Non Football Injury list (same as what Cordy Glenn was on in camp), so he could return with medical clearance.

He's on PUP. He can return after week 10.

There's basically zero chance he plays this year, even if the Bills make it to the bowl. They simply won't risk re-injury.

 

Look at Gronk and how important he is to the Pat's offense. There were questions as to whether he'd even play in week 1 a full year removed from his ACL tear. They won't risk it.
