Big Turk Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Peters isn't even in the team picture with Anthony Munoz. Watt maybe but lets see longevity. The league is watered down so most of the players today aren't as versatile and are more specialists. Watt is a throwback to the play anywhere era. Brady, Manning and Rogers is in the team photo. His gamefilm is almost a how to video It's obvious most of these posters haven't watched football for 20-30 years or half of these would be simply laughable...
jimmy10 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Manning's great, but is he THAT great? His rise to prominence coincided perfectly with the rise of the pass-friendly rules. And he has more postseason choke-jobs to his credit than rings. Kind of reminds me of ARod. Great fantasy player. Much more ho-hum when it counts.
Kirby Jackson Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Regular season? Sure. He is going to finish with the most yards, TDs (by a lot) and quite possibly multiple Super Bowl wins.
Kelly the Dog Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Maybe boselli was a better pure pass protector, but he couldnt get 20 yards downfield on screens and clear out all the linebackers and secondary like peters does routinely. Guy is amazing Munoz and Ogden were considered far superior I would say.
/dev/null Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 QB: Combine Manning's regular season accomplishments with Brady's postseason. KR: Hester P: Case could be made for Shane Lechler
TallskiWallski83 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I like the topic!! Manning, Brady, Hester and Vinateri are the ones to consider. I think that Rodgers and Megatron could end up there as well. I am not going to consider anyone with 5 years or less experience. Charles Woodson is a name that hasn't been mentioned that is worthy or consideration as is Antonio Gates. I am not sure that either of those 2 are the BEST but probably top 5 guys that are 1st ballot HOFers. Champ Bailey as well (if you count him). Not sure how I forgot about Woodson, Hes a first ballot HOF for certain.
Rico Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 He is going to finish with the most yards, TDs (by a lot) and quite possibly multiple Super Bowl wins. Multiple SB wins are highly unlikely based on his historical post-season performance... and even if he did pull that off, he's already folded way too many times to be considered GOAT. It'd take a ton of revisionist history. One of the best? That's good enough for him.
frogger Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 OL-Jonathan Ogden I wish Jason Peters was still a Bill, I think he might go down as the greatest UDFA ever
sjjr Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 P.Manning has to be in the discussion and there will always be talk of Brady too as a rival. JJ Watt and Megatron both have chances to be the greatest at their positions but have a lot of work to do.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 If only AP was smarter and therefore active. He'd be in the discussion. Larry Fitzgerald? Not quite Manning is the most arguable to date.

It'd take a ton of revisionist history. One of the best? That's good enough for him. It's highly unlikely that Denver wins the Super Bowl? Right now they are probably the favorite and he has at least 2 more good years left it looks like. If he plays in 4 Super Bowls, wins 2 and is the all-time leader in yards and TDs he has a case as the greatest ever. I think that he is ahead of Brady on the all-time list right now (have him behind only Montana).
BuffOrange Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Brady's career in reverse. http://grantland.com/features/bill-barnwell-conference-championships/ Pretty amazing what getting lucky in the early part of your career does for your clutchness reputation.
machine gun kelly Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Not saying I agree with all, but in the discussion I got ..... QB: Brady, Manning TE: Gronk, Gates WR: Megatron LT: Peters DL: Watt SS: Polamolu DB: Revis NT: Wilfork K: Vinatieri KR: Hester Vinatieri could end up the highest scoring kicker ever, and has been clutch all the way back to the first Patriots SB win over the Rams. Brady and Manning will always be in that conversation, but no one will ever agree as everyone has their guy meaning Montana, Graham, Unitas, and so on. Manning will have to win it all this year and maybe another before he retires. If he won two more, especially in a row like Elway as he finished, it will be hard not to say he was the best for awhile. That would put him at 3-2, but finishing on top, and have all of the records over Marino, and Farve. Megatron, Watt, and Hester could end up as the best ever but they have a long way to go. Megatron was amazing last year with beating Rice's single season record. He needs to keep going and get the yards Carter, Rice, Brown, Reed had over a career. Let's not put a bust up in Canton for Watt yet although he is playing like the best ever at this moment. What if he gets a career ending injury like Bo Jackson, Terrel Davis and so on. Hester will most likely go down as the best returner in history, and with the changes to the kick offs, in the wedge, where they kick from, etc.no one will repeat it. But in the end, he like Tasker will never get a gold jacket.
Rico Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I read thru this thread, and I would have to agree with Hester as the GOAT KR.... so that's one active player IMO.
truth on hold Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 It's highly unlikely that Denver wins the Super Bowl? Heck a lot of people are saying he's best ever already.
Captain Hindsight Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Manning already has played in 3 super bowls and won one. He has the all time TD record in week 7 of this season. He is going to make it nearly impossible to catch even if he just plays this year and he will likely play a few more. When he was hurt, his team tanked without him. He could have won the MVP based on that. Manning is by far the best QB ever. Especially if he wins another

The thread made me realize how much talent there is in the league right now. We probably all have a tendency to reminisce about so-and-so bygone era. Not that I have the time to do it, but I wonder how this exercise would have looked with the rosters of say 20 years ago. Munoz and Ogden were considered far superior I would say. Again, probably my view of boselli was clouded by his play against Bruce smith, when he singlehandedly owned the guy. That was unheard of
VanCity Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Sherman is not even close to being one of the best cornerbacks ever. Could even argue that he may not be very good if Earl Thomas and Cam Chancellor were not there in secondary. Watch more than one Hawks game a year. Sherman is on an island for 9/10 plays. I don't believe he's in the conversation for greatest ever, but he's an awesome CB. And yes, ET and Cam don't hurt his play.
Malazan Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) Bruce. I don't think a guy 'gets in the conversation' until year 5. Edited October 21, 2014 by jeremy2020
doro Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Watt just have one great season. Let's give him some times before we put him up there. Look at his stat.
