Buffalo Bills offensive line coach Jim McNally said Barnes was the most impressive lineman during the week as he sat and watched the big tackle practice with head coach Mike Mularky."
Snorom Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 Khalif Barnes OT Washington 6’5 310 Khalif Barnes OT Washington 6’5 310By: Robert Davis Khalif Barnes has been a mainstay on the UW since his redshirt freshman season. He started every game at tackle that season, and has been there the rest of his career until he fractured his wrist half way through his senior season. He started all 42 games he played in. Barnes was named team captain for the 2004 season. Khalif Barnes has a lot of upside at the next level. He’s a great athlete, moves very well, and is great in pass protection. There are few that have his athleticism in this draft at the tackle position. He has a lot of experience, and has proven durable during his career. Right now, Barnes is more of a one-dimensional blocker. He’s great in pass pro, but needs work in the run game. The big reason for that is that he needs to bulk up more. He’s steadily added weight to his frame, but he still needs a few more, and needs to get stronger. Barnes is one of the more athletically gifted linemen in this draft. You can’t teach the natural athleticism that he has. If he gets bigger, he could end up being a very good NFL left tackle during his career. How much weight he can add before the draft will determine his draft stock. With his athletic skills, I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone take him in the 2nd round. He’s more of a 3rd or 4th rounder at this point, but could really outplay that position in a few years. He may be ranked lower presently based upon the fact he didn't play much this year so I wouldn't be surprised to see his stock rise with a solid showing at the combine

With the Bills 1st Pick at #54 right now, it will take some work to land him. And it looks as if he's going to move up a bit too...
TigerJ Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 He runs like a defensive end. If he can add 20 lbs and stay under 5 flat in the forty he would have the tools to be an absolutely dominating left tackle.
nodnarb Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 he'd be great at #55, but we'd have to get lucky.
theNose76 Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 Sounds like a smaller, slower version of Robert Gallery, which is a good thing. I'd take him in the 3rd, after we draft Nuge in the 2nd
clumping platelets Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 He's got all the tools to be a very good LT This may be why TD is insisting on a 2nd rd pick for Henry. It will give us more ammo to make the move to get a player like Barnes.
