October Movies: Fury, Gone Girl, The Judge, & The Book of Life

Well... It is Fincher so there is some graphic violence, including one particular scene you already know about from the book I'm sure. I admit, I turned away for a moment during that scene, and can see how some people wouldn't take to it. But really there was more tension than actual gore for most of the movie.

The dialogue and language and rawness of it is most certainly still there, which I love because the author also wrote the screenplay. But with Fincher's take on it, it becomes hilarious... unexpectedly for me because I did not read the book. But if you dug the book I'm sure it won't be too over the top for you.

Geckos in space?

Are they grunting?

There is one other one that a group is working on restoring. Pulled out of a river bed in Poland.

I'm amazed they got use of it. I generally don't see WWII movies, as I can't help but nitpick them to pieces (I found eight mistakes in the Fury trailer alone). But I have to now, just to see that tank.

I believe the tank you're referring to is a British Valentine tank

Let us know what you think. I'm going to try to see Fury this week if I can.

Alright, finally saw "Gone Girl", boy what a twisted movie.

At times I didn't know if I was watching a serious drama or a black comedy. You can't help but laugh at many of the lines that are delivered.

Ben Affleck is Ben Affleck, but he does a decent job in this role and Rosamund Pike is spectacular. The person who really caught my eye was Carrie Coon, who played Ben Affleck's sister, she was great. I've never seen her before, but she played her part perfectly. I also really liked Kim Dickens as the lead detective in this story.

David Fincher does a fine job in capturing the mood of this film, and the build-up and downfall of this couples relationship is done perfectly.

The toughest thing in this movie is finding a likeable character or one that you want to empathize with. I also thought the movie could have been about 15 minutes shorter, but aside from that, I have little to complain about.

I can understand why many people would be turned off by this film, and why people can find it upsetting. I don't know if this is a movie I would watch over and over again, but I have to give it a lot of credit. This was a very good movie.

Next week, I will check out "Fury".

My wife dragged me to Gone Girl so naturally I thought it would suck ads, and that's before I even knew Ben Affleck had the starring role, but to my surprise it was actually pretty good. Not sure I cared too much for the ending (I hate it when everyone dies at the end) but if you don't know what's coming it's a good ride.

That movie is getting rave reviews.

If you get a chance to see it read up on Schultz first. The guy was winning on a national stage at age 17 against guys twice his age. Hell, at one point he flew to Russia to wrestle then flew back to wrestle in his HS state to wrestle two classes above his weight. And won all but one match by pin.

Saw "Fury" last night. What an intense movie. Unlike "Saving Private Ryan", which has a more heroic feel to it, this movie is just gritty, dirty & unsettling.

Kudos to all the actors in this movie, they play there respective parts very good in this. The intensity of the battle sequences, the horrors of war, and the tension between the characters at times feels unbearable. However, that's probably how it was.

The final battle sequence filled me with mixed emotions. I wanted to cheer for all the guys in the tank and yet it felt like I was just watching a big battle unfold with no bias. Adding subtitles for the non-descript nazi soldiers was something I was not expecting and practically adds some empathy to their cause, despite all the horrors we see of little children fighting for their side throughout the movie.

Director David Ayer deserves a lot of credit for setting the tone and mood of this film. This dark, depressing film is not your typical WWII flick.

I haven't yet... did you hate it? I'm really looking forward to it, going whenever I finish what I'm working on, which at this point looks like 2022.

November Movie thread is now open. lol

A valid point.

However, DC Tom, I've seen weirder threads than that started on this board.

This is true. And while it tempts me to go start a topic "The effect in Interstellar were too loud - discuss," I'm just not that big an !@#$.

Apparently even I have a limit. Who knew?
