Gugny
This is in my hometown. The day Scorch was revealed, it was ridiculed by everyone in the area. The stupid backstory and PR move (defeating the firefighter) were a convenient excuse to get rid of this pathetic mascot. Hearing lots of traction on switching it to a dragon. Either way, even the costume was ridiculously inferior to other AHL teams' mascots. We've been waiting a long, long, long time to have a permanent AHL team back in Glens Falls. The least they can do is make the GD mascot respectable. Go Flames!!! Go Glens Falls!!!

ExiledInIllinois
Why not make a fire fighter the mascot? Because they would be dousing their team... Now, unless he was a pyro volunteer fireman? Where's HogBoy when you need them... ;-) Anyway.. It's Glens Falls, go with a Mohican or Huron running around burning the white man to the ground. It works in DC. Or how 'bout the Anglo route: Natty Bumppo running around with a hatchet & long gun? I jest... I jest...
PastaJoe
They could use a fire dog dressed in fireman gear. Animals are always a safe bet for mascots, the kids like them and they can sell stuffed animals. Glens Falls may be SOL on an AHL team in a couple years if the AHL goes ahead with plans to create an AHL West division in western cities for the western NHL teams like Calgary. The cities that lose their teams would drop to the ECHL.

The Kings own the Manchester Monarchs and no one goes to games anymore and their lease is up this year. Meanwhile they also own the ECHL Reign in Ontario, CA. The cities that lose their teams would drop to the ECHL. We did ECHL before. And UHL. ECHL isn't terrible hockey, but UHL is like watching high school intramurals. The venue (GF Civic Center) is due for major upgrades. Some have taken place over the past few years while the Flyers' AHL team was playing here (it took them 3 years for their new venue to be built). More are needed. Hopefully, by the time an AHL West comes to fruition, the Civic Center will be attractive to eastern AHL teams. The Civic Center needs to be better than the Times Union Center, which is in Albany, who has its own AHL team. But the TU center, in my opinion, is too big (over twice the size of GF Civic Center). AHL hockey pumps significant money into our downtown businesses; not having that for years really sucked. I hope we don't need to survive another drought. I guess the guy hates Glens Falls. It's a city on the rebound. I'm not a city tax payer, but if I was, I'd be happy with what they mayor is doing. He's cleaning the city up. He is solely responsible for having an AHL team here. Everyone - and I mean everyone - else had completely given up. He kept at it, behind the scenes, and made it happen. It's a great little city.
