Deranged Rhino Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Mid-season trades almost never happen in the NFL. It takes too long for players to learn a new offense or defense to make it worthwhile for either team. It's not baseball. Haven't we made a couple in each of the past few seasons though?
The Frankish Reich Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 The linked AP article says Williams is guaranteed $5.2 million next year. We simply can't afford that. Forget draft picks or players in return -- this was a dumb signing from the start, a salary dump to undo the contract damage is worth it even if the only thing we get in return is added payroll flexibility for next year.
Matt in KC Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I haven't read anything beyond this thread. Is the cause and effect clear? Which came first, Mike Williams "acting up" or being deactivated?
NoSaint Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) Haven't we made a couple in each of the past few seasons though? Not sure any, yet alone a couple in multiple seasons Thad in preseason, I guess? Edited October 13, 2014 by NoSaint
The Frankish Reich Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I haven't read anything beyond this thread. Is the cause and effect clear? Which came first, Mike Williams "acting up" or being deactivated? I think it's as simple as: he's not as good as Sammy, Goodwin is cheaper, Hogan appears able to fill a different/complementary role, the Bills have a big case of buyer's remorse.

As it's October im not sure why the price tag matters. Is he better value sitting?
The Frankish Reich Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 As it's October im not sure why the price tag matters. Is he better value sitting? Possibly. But if some other team that still thinks they can compete for the playoffs is hurting at WR and willing to take on that contract, you gotta pull the trigger. No way I'd want to go into 2015 with 10 million bucks guaranteed tied up in Orton + Williams. This is the kind of dumb contract that bad teams make that really harms their ability to get better where they need to get better.
FireChan Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Goodwin and Mile Williams for Desean Jackson and a 4th.
BmarvB Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 If he gets traded, it better be for a quality guard.
The Frankish Reich Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 If he gets traded, it better be for a quality guard. Or the money to go out and get a quality guard next season. Unfortunately I don't see any realistic chance of a substantial upgrade at guard this season.
Dr. Fong Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I still don't understand why he was deactivated for the game yesterday. Marronne's explanation just sounded like a bunch of nonsense to me. I really am struggling with understanding why the Bills have such a hard time utilizing good football players.
jaybee Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Maybe the Giants will show interest with Victor Cruz being out for the season. My thoughts exactly. Would love for him to stay here though.
YoloinOhio Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Buffalo Bills @buffalobills 2m2 minutes ago Doug Whaley on trade rumors: "I want to stress this to everybody. We are not actively shopping anybody on this team.” http://bufbills.co/Jz3szJ
The Frankish Reich Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 My thoughts exactly. Would love for him to stay here though. That's a really good opportunity for us. Giants won't give up on the season till they're mathematically eliminated, so they might be willing to overpay.
Fixxxer Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I think Carolina would be a great fit for him, IMO
YoloinOhio Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Mike Williams @CaveManMike19 12s13 seconds ago Chill everybody I'm happy with being a buffalo bill....... I mean come on it's my dream my agent just did what a agent supposed to do ...
Mr. WEO Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 not now Mike not now, were six games into this- how bout you go out against the Vikings and make some plays? ehhh easier to B word I'm sure he would be happy to. But Marrone needed to activate Dean instead....
NoSaint Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Mike Williams @CaveManMike19 12s13 seconds ago Chill everybody I'm happy with being a buffalo bill....... I mean come on it's my dream my agent just did what a agent supposed to do ... hes, publicly, been a pretty good cheerleader/teammate..... hopefully behind the scenes matches. heck, maybe his agent helps prevent future boneheaded choices like deactivating him by stepping up to the plate here.

Aren't we under the cap - not sure why money would have anything to do with this. Not mention, the Bills aren't looking to trade him, MWs agent asked if he look for trade options. WR not getting the ball as much as he wants. Wah.
