Orton's Arm
Dismissing Bill was Ralph's biggest blunder but Pegula can make amends and the Bills will be relevant once again. I disagree. If Pegula was to hire Polian tomorrow, he wouldn't be getting the same Polian the Bills had back in the late '80s/early '90s. Under his guidance, the Colts were one Peyton Manning injury away from 2-14. They just weren't a good football team when he was fired. I'll grant that a big reason for his failure was his son Chris. Keeping Chris from coming anywhere near the 716 area code would have to be a precondition for hiring Polian. But even that wouldn't be enough. The Bills need to find an up-and-coming person for the GM spot. Not a guy who'd once been good back in the day.
cale
This Glory Days fetish has to end. I liked Bill Polian the first time around. But I concur with whomever said Polian's best days are over. Plus he has a reputation as being overbearing. Look at the Seahawk's program. Organizations like the Packers and Giants know about best organizational practices for long term success in the modern era. I would prefer someone from those teams. There's talk of bringing in Ernie Accorsi. I think that's a good idea. For the record I think Whaley has done a good job bringing in talent. I think the bigger problem has been that there has been no church and state separation between administration and football operations. It's pretty clear that Littman and to some extent Overdorf have had huge influence in the football operation with Ralph's blessing. I think once we get the football ops people to do their jobs without the accountants looking over their shoulders, we should be a long way towards righting the ship. I can't think of one other franchise where someone like Littman has had that much influence. Mike Brown of CIN and Bob Kraft of NE are probably exceptions. We need to look elsewhere but to the past. Buffalo Barbarian
Dismissing Bill was Ralph's biggest blunder but Pegula can make amends and the Bills will be relevant once again. He knows how to pick QBs unlike everyone since him. maybe he can be QB GM

machine gun kelly
All good points on separation of administration and football. I like Whaley, and it was Nix who passed on some good QB's. We are basically one QB, a couple of guards and a TE away from a top line team.

Polian would be a GREAT addition to this team as a football czar over anybody on that list, period! He knows how to build championship teams (Carolina, Bills and Colts). He knows our region. He knows talent. Pairing him with Whaley would be a perfect match.
May Day 10
very happy rumors are they are looking at bringing in an outside set of eyes at the top... probably dont think Polian would be a good idea though.
CountDorkula
The NFL Has past Polian by. The Colts were a bad football team with the best QB of all time. Anyone could have drafted Peyton Manning and be considered a genius.
Dirtbag
i think ralph is resting fairly comfortably. it's not like anything was preventing him from rehiring polian in the last 20 years if he so chose.
rcatty
Polian knows talent, and I believe he understands the composition and progression of building a contender. Yes, his team in Indy failed after Peyton went down, but take a closer look. He drafted Jeffrey Hughes in the first round. He was thought to be a bust by the Indy faithful. I somehow think we don't think of him as a bust. He has been one of our best players. Polian did not like the Sammy trade. He believed the team was not on the cusp of a championship worthy of dealing a first round pick for the WO. The man has built a winner everywhere he has been. He single handedly make us a contender in a short time. Then he goes to Carolina and gets them to the NFC championship in what 2 years? He picks Peyton over Ryan Leaf at Indy. At that time many touted Leaf as the better pick. I have spent a good deal of time listening to Polian on ESPN, and Sirius radio. If you listen to him you can hear how bright he is. Yes, he is 70 + years old, but so is Gil Brandt (likely about 80). Ernie Accorsi is no baby either; he is 72. These guys know football. Polian loves Buffalo, and the Bills. He would likely give his left arm to resurrect this disaster of a franchise. Since Polian left we have been in the toliet, and subsequent GM's and coaches have done nothing but add to the pile in the bowl. Bring in Polian, dump the amateurs in Marrone and company, and get a QB.
