Chef Jim Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 In terms of pay inequality between the genders...I would define it with math. Show your work.
/dev/null Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Show your work. Work is irrelevant. There is consensus
DC Tom Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I don't listen to what she says, let alone object to it. But you listen to and object to other people talking about what you don't listen or object to. You're an idiot.
dayman Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Show your work. Showed some math earlier. But you listen to and object to other people talking about what you don't listen or object to. You're an idiot. Not objecting, mocking. And better to listen to people here than listen to her talk about federal policy.
DC Tom Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Where? It was comparing Downey's salary for Iron Man with Paltrow's. It was ridiculous. You can ignore it.
GG Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 It was comparing Downey's salary for Iron Man with Paltrow's. It was ridiculous. You can ignore it. Did Jeff Bridges get paid the same as Downey?
Doc Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 How can Barry talk about pay inequality when his female staffers make less than his male staffers?
/dev/null Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Not objecting, mocking. And better to listen to people here than listen to her talk about federal policy. Unfortunately there are people that will buy into Paltrow's "Mom" routine Edited October 11, 2014 by /dev/null
Deranged Rhino Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Pushing back against simple facts? But the inequality of pay in Hollywood between the genders has nothing to do with the federal government, and everything to do with the fact there are more staring roles in big studio movies (which are the only movies that pay anything in today's Hollywood) written for men than there are women. There are a multitude of reasons why this is the case, some driven by the market and others driven by sexism which most definitely exists in the industry. But ultimately it's a problem caused by the writers and producers in the industry and isn't something that can be legislated in any way shape or form. Blame the crappy writers, not the legislative branch of the federal government. She's definitely a working mother in an industry full of double standards, (I guess that makes me a believer in Dev's post above), but she's not the best spokesperson for the struggle.
TakeYouToTasker Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Pushing back against simple facts? You feel Downey Jr. And Paltrow should have warned the same amount for their roles in Iron Man?

I don't think that argument holds any, ah, er, um, water wrt the Hollywood porn industry. And a few more cycles of the cultural revolution police in Amurika and we will be made to care about having an equal amount of female heroes in our media. Hell, there will be a time that necessitates having more female than male heroes in order to turn around the culture. I could see Kalifornia legislating requirements for casting and plots that would make the Agency's script for Argo look like Casablanca. Lord have mercy!
IDBillzFan Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Not objecting, mocking. Which is pretty much what we're doing with Paltrow. We're mocking her stupidity.
Nanker Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 On a tangential topic, I do miss your profession of not being a homophobe, LA.
Chef Jim Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Showed some math earlier. Yes you did but you left out a couple variables in your work.
GG Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 But the inequality of pay in Hollywood between the genders has nothing to do with the federal government... Haven't got been here long enough to know not to spoon feed the idiots

Fine. Damnit Greg, this is all your fault! In terms of pay inequality between the genders...I would define it with math. Yeah? Where's the formula based on screen time, number of lines spoken, box office draw, action figures created, posters created, etc etc? Or do you take the asinine view that 1 movie = 1 job, so extras who are on the screen for 1 second are paid unequally compared to Downey? Or that their numbers are different, and thus they are unequal?
