I guess it clears the decks for next season - which will likely be the last if they underperform again like they did this year. Carrie deserted, on her own. All her men have abandoned her and she needs to figure out whether to get back in the game or start a sewing circle and become Intarwebs fodder for a GoBillsInDallas thread.

I'm not sure how they could have reached for something higher than the embassy attack. Yes, clearly setting things up for next year. I didn't find this season underwhelming at all; I thought it was great. Much better than season 3 IMO.
