mitchmurraydowntown Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Here are the Top 5 defenses in the NFL through Week 5 according to Pro Football Reference's EXP rating (expected points contributed by all defense): 1. Detroit Lions 2. Miami Dolphins 3. Buffalo Bills 4. San Diego Chargers 5. Houston Texans I know the Bills contributed & it's a small sample but it really says something. Here's our next few opponents and their defensive ranks in terms of pts/game: NE - 12 Minn - 20 NYJ - 21 KC - 7 Miami - 19 NYJ - 21 Cleveland - 24 Denver - 16 GB - 10 Oakland - 22 NE - 12

boyst Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Why is Miami at 19 if they are 2nd best? I think the first one is a hybrid ranking of how good the D's are while the second set showing Miami at 19th is strictly points per game against.
QCity Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Maybe they're ranked as the top defenses because they've played Buffalo?
mitchmurraydowntown Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Bills contributed, as mentioned in the post.
GG Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I guess it helps that they practice against the 3rd best?
LeGOATski Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Why not post the rest of our schedule's EXP rating instead of PPG?

We have 2 rookies learning the ropes against some superstar players and very strong defenses. I have to think this was a partial factor in our offensive struggles. Curious to see how we perform against weaker defenses.

Well i bet the Bills have learned some valuable and painful lessons. hopefully they are better for it
klos63 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Well i bet the Bills have learned some valuable and painful lessons. hopefully they are better for it Yes, and we are in first place. It's nice to learn and still win 3 of 5.

I have to think this was a partial factor in our offensive struggles. Curious to see how we perform against weaker defenses. And they're getting better everyday!
3rdand12 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 And they're getting better everyday! Thats what i was expecting ( hoping ! )This team would get rolling about now. But with EJ and 3 losses. Ha ! true though. They have improved alot since last week for sure. Heck i saw Gilmore making nice tackles against the run !!!
filthymcnasty08 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 very much statistically significant! Now if NE plays us then goes 12 to 7…..we may have a problem. Bring on the cream puff D's!!!
TPS Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 That's why I think the offensive production (yards) was pretty significant last game, especially in 2nd half, because it came against the #1 rated defense on their home turf.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 yeah and because of it for many EJ sucks and Orton is king.

John from Riverside Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Two was to look at this - The bills offense is one of the teams they played but - They also had to play 3 other teams
eball Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 There's nothing like a thread consisting of ambiguous stats and tenuous correlations to get me pumped up for Sunday!
