I'm Spartacus Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I know there is another Officating thread(s) going on, but this is not related directly to the Bills vs. Lions game (although watching the game promted this topic). This is nothing new - way too many flags are being thrown. Each year it seems more & more penalties in each game. It almost seems like the Officials think it is their game to manage and dictate play. Yes, rules are rules. But with a flag being thrown close to every play, it is sucking the enjoyment out of watching football. Games are now taking too long, outcomes are decided by a bad call, etc., etc. There is no flow to the games anymore - staring to get boring. What do you all think.....flame away.

If there are way too many flags, what about all the ones on Offensive Holding when the Bills are on Defense? At least as I read TBD they are being held on every play.
Kelly the Dog Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 You're not Spartacus. The officiating was ridiculous. In fact, it was so ridiculous that the guy I was watching the game with said there is going to be a penalty on Detroit right after the most atrocious call and immediately the Lions got a holding call. It was really bad.
r00tabaga Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Its getting really bad lately. The P.I. "call/then no call" was the worst case of Vegas'ing I've ever seen. So bad.
billsburgh Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 two things stand out to me about bad calls today, the D holding/pass interference mugging on Watkins that was picked up and then on Detroit's 2nd to last possession in the 4th quarter, on the play where Tate had the long catch and run, the right tackle rocked back before the snap but no false start was called.
I'm Spartacus Posted October 5, 2014 Author Posted October 5, 2014 Again, I don't want to seem biased as being a Bills fan & observer, but...... This happens in every game I watch. It's brutal. Can't the NFL/Goodell see all this garbage & put a muzzle on the NFL Officiating Committee?
sodbuster Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Woefully inconsistent. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I long for the days of the replacement refs.
JohninMinn. Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Horrible officiating. I'm willing to bet most of the crew today never played the game. No foul calls were a joke.
K D Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Can we talk about the call no call penalties? There were a couple of them. Do the officials confer and then decide since it's in the Bills favor they should pick it up? That Watkins call was one of the worst I've ever seen. And then the explanation was that the "contact" was legal. Since when is contact with a receiver with the ball in the air legal? I think we deserve an explanation on that one. That was a crucial 3rd down that cost us at least 3 points and almost the game

Must be a "vegas-ing" thing as the other poster said.
fridge Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I love the Buffalo Bills, but the NFL is practically unwatchable. I am constantly irritated with the way the officiating and rules are handled. I assume as I get older I won't really want to put up with it, especially if it worsens (though I can't imagine how - it's that bad).

Keukasmallies Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I think the fact that the officials are mic'd and can talk w/ each other more than ever results in more calls being missed as they debate the finer points of whatever amongst themselves. It certainly slows the game down!
Coach Tuesday Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 The rate of over-officiating seems to be increasing on direct relation to the growth of government. We live in a rule-obsessed society.
KOKBILLS Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 This is an easy yes answer... The incredible lack of consistency on what is called from play-to-play...and game-to-game...is mind numbing...It's beyond frustrating to watch...
filthymcnasty08 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 It starts with these off-season meetings where the competition committee decides how they're going to tweak the game. It's all geared towards more offense =more fan excitement = more viewers = more advertising/more swag sold/more concessions. ALL EQUALING more $ to the owners.
John Cocktosten Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 High Def has changed the game. Hi def? You could've seen the hands to the face and the hold on Sammy if it was shot on Zapruder's camera.
