1billsfan Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Is this a further indictment of FSU quarterbacks? As with the position itself, the colleges where great NFL QBs come is a total crapshoot and scattered throughout the collegiate landscape. Most schools only have one great NFL QB to hang their hat on, if they even have one.
Green Lightning Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Schnikey - wish we playd the Vikes this week. What a dumpster fire. Anyone still want Ponder?
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Great talent, but no Bridgewater and wet weather. Hate to sit a guy that good.......but. Thanks for the good advice. I pulled him out just in time.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Week 5: Vikings vs. Packers highlights Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers passed for 156 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers' 42-10 blowout of the Minnesota Vikings Thanks for the good advice. I pulled him out just in time. You're welcome.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 @ProFootballTalk Christian Ponder takes the blame for last night, which he kind of should http://wp.me/p14QSB-9AAt
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 did the rules change? do they flip a coin on TNF to see which team fields it starters and which one its 3rd string? not too entertaining if you don't have a horse in the race

I can't believe I picked the Vikings to cover 9.5 points. UGH. UGH.

But I got to thinking of that after looking back over Aaron Rodgers' scouting reports and a big knock on him was the uncertainty coming from Jeff Tedford's offense, and the big time busts that his schools produced. After a while people recognized that the system made the QBs look much better than what their NFL careers would be. Looks like Rodgers was the sole exception. Same criticism followed Marshawn Lynch as a system RB. So now, Jimbo Fisher has Jamarcus Russell, Christian Ponder & EJ Manuel as his Round 1 proteges. Beware, Jameis?

In my youth, Michigan was infamous for producing QB busts -- until they stopped producing QB busts (Harbaugh was decent, and of course Brady). It's really pretty random, I think. I mean, is Delaware really a place a top-flight QB should think about going to (Flacco, Gannon)? BYU has had a lot of busts, but they also produced Steve Young. ND hasn't put out many good QBs in the last few decades, but they did put out Montana. Purdue QBs usually suck, but Brees (and hopefully Orton!) certainly stand out. To an extent, yes. Tedford's QB issues are associated primarily with his pre-Cal days: Oregon (Harrington and Akili Smith) and Fresno State (Dilfer). Of course, there's always Billy Volek ...

I'm throwing the random ones out and with the others, there were a lot of years in between. But the Tedford QBs were fairly close in succession that by the time Rodgers was drafted, there were enough recent failures to question the player vs the system. That was the concern with Michigan as well, and more recently with ND. I think it's fair to look at Jimbo's QBs in that light.

Don't you recall the anticipation we all had of signing him after the 2005 disaster?!?
