Rob's House Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I know Carolina shut down Donkey Kong Suh and the Lions, by does anyone know how they did it?
PaattMaann Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 They blocked them But for real, football is any given Sunday....some players have bad games, some good ones...some game plans work, some don't....it's such a mix and match of things happening during the game that can influence the outcome The bottom line is - we have to execute in order to win, every guy on the field has to execute Last Sunday, most of our guys were executing....for most of the game (yes watt was an animal and yes we had a few WR drops early), but our QB was not executing on his throws, thus, we lost....this Sunday if we have a repeat performance but our QB makes those accurate throws, we will be in the game
BuffOrange Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 The Lions didn't give up much on the ground and got lots of pressure that game. Cam made some awesome throws under duress; half of which Benjamin dropped.

TPS Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I wouldn't look for some type of comparison with a road game. The Lions are lethal at home. They held Eli and the giants to 14 points and < 200 yards, then Rogers and the pack to 7 points and 220 yards. Defense and ST will have to score in order for the Bills to win.

Meh, small sample randomness. Their home/road splits have typically been like the Bills which is to say it matters yes, but not to that extreme.
PearlHowardman Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 It's not about beating Detroit, it's about beating New England. Kyle Orton has to be big-time rusty. The Detroit game should get Orton back in the swing of NFL things getting him ready for New England.
Maddog69 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Kyle Orton has to be big-time rusty. The Detroit game should get Orton back in the swing of NFL things getting him ready for New England. Enough with the excuses for Orton already. If he's not ready to play, he shouldn't play. If he's rusty, he should've signed earlier so he could play in preseason. Every game on the schedule matters. We cannot afford to say "It's not about beating Detroit".

I'm just being realistic as well as look at things long term.
GG Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) I just watched the first half of Lions - Jets, and despite Detroit ranking as a top defense, they certainly didn't awe me. This game was more about Geno's general suckitude than Lions' D domination. We have to remember that in two games, Lions faced struggling QBs. They lucked out to get Giants when they were still ironing out their defense. Granted they shut down Rodgers, but that was also at a time of a slow start for the Pack. Jets' OL had some nice holes for the RBs, and if Jets got better QB play, the outcome would have been much different. Incidentally, Stafford was pressured much more by Jets D than the other way around. And this proves the advantage that a good QB will give you. Stafford did not look long a lot (Megatron very limited) and was making a lot of underneath 7-10 passes that Jets were giving him. The difference was he was able to exploit coverage mismatch on two big plays that led to 2 TDs in the first half, while Geno did nothing. Otherwise, it was an evenly played first half, with a slight advantage to Jets' DL. They are weak in the secondary. So, as is the tagline this week, if Orton plays a competent game, I have a good feeling about it. Edited October 3, 2014 by GG

Orton isn't starting Sunday necessarily to beat the Lions, but more so to put us in better position to beat the Pats*. As far as playoff considerations go, it's win the AFC east or bust. The reverse holds true for K. Williams and Bradham. If they're on the fence about playing, they'll sit Sunday and get ready for the Pats*. Edited October 3, 2014 by BillnutinHouston

YoloinOhio Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I don't think the Detroit game is as critical as the AFC games BUT what makes it important is that we don't want a 3 game losing streak going into the Pats* game. It was the Houston game that burns me. That should have been a W and then the SD loss and Detroit loss (if it happens) would not be as bad.

They've lucked out with who they have played as to why their defense has looked as good as it has. And although the Packers game looks great, it's (a) a divisional game and (b) the Packers offense was/is struggling. Even though the Packers won last night, Rodgers didn't have to do much(passed for 195 and 2 TDs) the running game finally got going for the Pack, which it hasn't done all season. I still think they are a good defense, just not world beaters.
