MRW
If the difference between EJ and Orton is 7 wins vs 9 wins, then what's the point of making the switch? As others have said, 9 wins in this division will probably give you a legit shot at the playoffs. Based on the way EJ played these last 2 games, I don't think the difference would've ended up being 7 vs. 9.
HeHateMe
"Far be it from me" to question this thread's message. I think for Orton to help this team beat the Lions is "easier said than done". However, I hope the OP has to "eat crow" by the time the game ends on Sunday. Hopefully Marrone will "read him the riot act" before the game just to let Orton know that the team is "pinning their hopes" on him. I think the QB change is "playing with fire", if not going to the "point of no return"- but maybe Marrone is "playing his cards right". QB changes are "par for the course" in this league- Manuel's play was "nothing to write home about". The change has given Orton a "new lease on life", and it's "no skin off my nose". ^^^
devldog131
EJ could also end up being the better QB over the course of the season too. EJ may just be struggling in the dreaded sophomore slump! Tell me you never heard good players struggling in their sophomore season??? (yes it does happen). I've always been one to want a player to have ample time to prove himself. Sorry 14 games doesn't cut it. EJ can win, EJ just cannot win every game AND that is what a lot of the Anti EJ's want to see happen. Win every game. that my friend is unrealistic. The very idea of a "sophomore slump" implies performance at a high level in the "freshman" campaign. Seeing as EJ showed very little in his 1st season, the concept of a sophomore slump cannot apply. EJ has not shown the ability to be a successful starting quarterback in the NFL. Perhaps with some grooming and studying from the bench and significant improvement in his mechanics without the pressure to win on his shoulders, he can be successful. I just don't see it happening or him developing sufficiently in live action at this time.
Hapless Bills Fan
This Detroit defense is 6th against the pass, and 7th against the run. I find it a tad disconcerting that Schwartz leaves Detroit and the defense improves from 15th to 1st. I've been wondering when someone would make that observation. One of those things that make you go "hmmmmm"
Wayne Cubed
I've been wondering when someone would make that observation. One of those things that make you go "hmmmmm" Look who they played though. They played a Giants team that hadn't figured out its offense yet. They played a Jest offense with Geno at the helm and they played a struggling Packers offense.
1B4IDie
EJ Manuel played historically one of the worst back to back game stretches in NFL History. Only EJ Manuel and Kyle Brady have games with back to back QBRs in the single digits. So playing better than EJ Manuel is a very low bar. Orton needs to be a game Manager and hit open receivers. His goal is to be Trent Dilfer in Baltimore. A stat line of 11/18 for 175 yards and 1 TD is a success with CJ and Freddy both over 70 yards. Think Trent Dilfer when you think of the Bills QB needs in 2014. EJ was playing at a sub Trent Dilfer level. Can Kyle Orton play at or above Trent Dilfer levels. We will see. Look who they played though. They played a Giants team that hadn't figured out its offense yet. They played a Jest offense with Geno at the helm and they played a struggling Packers offense. and Carolina. The Packers game though was an eye opener. The offensives are some if the worst in the NFL. Not that the Bills are an improvement at this point in time.
K-9
I don't see why anybody should be giving Orton excuses to get up to speed w/ the game or playbook. He's a 10 yr vet that knows the game. Been with the Bills for 6 weeks now and should know the playbook. Unless he's another Billy Joe Hobert, (Remember him Bills fans?) he should be fine. He's watched game film and should be aware we have some O-line issues. But after his first offensive series, the rust should be gone. I'll be lenient by giving him at most, the first quarter to get used to the game-speed of things. That's my take on this guy. Go Bills! I'm with you on this. A 10 year vet has an advantage. As for the rust, it's nothing a naked bootleg on his first play won't shake off. GO BILLS!!!
