the good news?

EJ came up huge at a point in the game when i, for one, was about to leave this game for dead.

i've been waiting to see him become a playmaker since we got him, and today he delivered.

Unfortunately, his inconsistent play throughout the day - specifically, his poor choices and inability to complete passes that would have kept drives alive - put us in the position we were in when that play was made.

it's gonna be a frustrating season, fellow fans. our STs, D, and run offense break down occasionally, but for the most part - play consistently sound football. we have to get consistent play from our pass offense.

speaking of which... what was up with those routes that resulted in the drive killing pick?

there was little separation between the receivers, and their close proximity to each other brought defenders - invited disaster.

He hit a WIDE OPEN WR on a blown coverage play. If EJ cant make that throw then god help us.

He wasnt inconsistent today. Inconsistent means he had a lot of good with some bad sprinkled in or a lot of good with a lot of bad. He was 90% bad today.

Arguably his worst performance in the NFL so far.

Not to mention that williams was basically jumping up and down like "hey....dumbass, throw me the damn ball! I couldn't be more open." He def had to slow way down to make the catch too. Every qb should hit that 100% of the time. It's like playing catch when someone is that wide open.

i'd like to see the play again, but i got the impression the CB gave up his coverage responsibilities when he thought Manuel was going to run upfield - and the safety(?) wasn't prepared for his teammate's early departure.

i also think that EJ made several good throws - it's just that his stinkers killed drives, which squader potential scoring opportunities.

For the bolded, you deserve some sort of award.

As for the pick---the ball traveled about 4 yards before it was caught by the guy it was thrown directly to (Watt).

i was waiting for that.. :D

look at it this way, fans have been waiting to see some sign of life from their QB - similar to what they've seen from Geno Smith - well, today they got it.

the good, the bad, and the ugly

The play to Williams was not that great of a play. EJ rolled right and the CB let Williams go leaving him wide open so not like it was some great throw on the money. There was a play there to be made and EJ made it but it certainly wasn't special

EJ can't connect with his wide receivers which obviously is a big problem for a QB

The only good news from today is the run defense was outstanding

i guess what impressed me about that, was that the moment wasn't too big for him. in other words, when an opportunity presented itself, he capitilized with a throw that was on the mark and kept Williams running. after watching a mixture of good and bad passing all day, it was encouraging to see.

Sorry man I'm not trying to jump on you for trying to see some good in an awful performance but I would hope hitting a wide open WR wouldnt be too big for him.

I actually think his scramble and pass to Chandker last week was more impressive.

I gotta give the OP major credit for trying to find a silver lining in the crap storm we all witnessed today. Seriously. But even as EJ made that nice play I was thinking, "too little, too late." Yeah, I know there were 9 minutes left, but for the first time I thought we were out of it with EJ at the helm. He left so many plays on the field at a time in the game when he could have blown it open.

GO BILLS!!!

I don't know, and hope I am not coming off as combative. But that play to Williams who was wide open could have made by a lot of guys on TBD. Sorry, if he misses that one I would lobby for Tuel to come back.

no problem.. i'm as frustrated as many of you are with his play.. but - and this is coming from a guy who never thought we were drafting a pocket passer - i'm trying to point out some aspects of his game today that didn't, well.. suck. I think it's a big transition for guys coming out of read-option collegiate offenses, to become NFL caliber QBs. i see no point in blaming the kid for his deficiencies - but i completely understand the frustration of watching our Bills squandering their chances to make the play-offs because EJ Manuel remains a work in progress

We haven't had one of those record games like we had in the past. You know like, giving up 300 yards rushing and passing in the same game or losing a game with the Jets having the most penalty yards since some team called the Yanks or something.

The run defense has been a bright spot.

yep, and i think this is what's killing everybody.. that with better QB play, we'd be a a playoff team. is Orton good enough to get us there? probably. i always thought he was a better option than Kolb - with a more of a resume. would this close the door to Manuel's development? no reason why it should. for those of you old enough to remember, you might recall Bradshaw's early troubles with the Steeler's that resulted in him being benched in favor of Hanratty and Gilliam.. but he answered the challenge. if everything that's been written about EJ's character is accurate, he might also respond favorably to taking a back seat for awhile.
