RuntheDamnBall Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Why can't EJ's development include taking a step back, WATCHING a journeyman pro QB run the same offense and learn a veteran's approach? The one thing you do is preserve the rest of the team's commitment to winning as they will respond to the situation being managed to the best of the current capabilities. It can. But that wouldn't satisfy people who are hell-bent on explaining to the world that he'll never be a good NFL QB and that they know this and everyone should always listen to them. I mean, somebody needs to think of these fans and their needs.

If his confidence is shot (which it appears to be), this is probably the best thing for EJ. It removes the pressure for a couple of weeks, lets him "recalibrate" and then if Orton fails, he comes back in with added confidence given the knowledge that his veteran backup QB couldn't do any better.

He may end up being a fantastic QB, but not if they break him because they are trying to push his progression too quickly. Yes he has only played 14 games but in those games he has shown he is not a franchise QB so, sit him down and groom him the old school way and then let him come in and play. If Orton can get them winning that is one less thing EJ has to overcome. Edited September 29, 2014 by A Dog Named Kelso
Original Byrd Man Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I was all for keeping the entire staff in place, but I'm having my doubts now. The thing that haunts me with EJ is his inaccuracy, and his lack of intensity. He runs timidly, and throws timidly. On that pick 6 I know Jimbo would have run Watt down before the end zone. He may not have kept him out but he would have tried. EJ gave up on the play and to me that inexcusable. I see EJ as the next Ryan Fitzpatrick with out the fire to win. That is not good combination! Maybe it's coaching!?
Maddog69 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Might Robert Woods be pissed that he isn't a key component of the offensive gameplan now that Sammy is here and that's why he's pouting? If his confidence is shot (which it appears to be), this is probably the best thing for EJ. It removes the pressure for a couple of weeks, lets him "recalibrate" and then if Orton fails, he comes back in with added confidence given the knowledge that his veteran backup QB couldn't do any better. except for the fact that he will be afraid to do anything like Losman was because as soon as he makes one mistake he will yet yanked again. You can't have the QB looking over his shoulder.
peterpan Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I agree completely with the OP, specifically with Watkins. He has looked this way since the Opener and its obvious to me that they KNOW the QB stinks and it IS affecting their play. Remember when it was obvious with TO and Trent? Same thing here. Time to start Orton. The AFC East is completely up for grabs this year. Screw giving EJ more time its obviously a total waste of time. The Bills are the last team in the league that can afford another playoff-less season.
