BuffaloBillsForever Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) I know there was a lot of discussion with this after the game. Marrone is currently on with Howard and Jeremy and was asked about the Chargers "pick plays". He said they were NOT penalties and there wasn't anything illegal about it. This should bring final perspective to this. Edited September 26, 2014 by BuffaloBillsForever

This should bring final perspective to this. I heard that and disagree with Marrone with regard to the 1st big pass play of the game to Malcolm Floyd. That was a blatant OPI by Keenan Allen on Robey. Most rub plays the receiver makes a subtle pick as if he's running a route. Allen wasn't subtle at all and IMO should have been flagged on the play,
GG Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 My hunch is that he's saying that because of how they've used Chandler in clearing out space for Sammy.
Nanker Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 My hunch is that he's saying that because of how they've used Chandler in clearing out space for Sammy. I would agree with those assessments. The reason he's saying that is because he uses that tactic, doesn't think it should be called, and doesn't want it called against The Bills.
ko12010 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 My hunch is that he's saying that because of how they've used Chandler in clearing out space for Sammy. Exactly. We use those plays too because they're damn effective. Marrone is always careful to say the right thing publicly in regards to what the NFL wants to hear from its coaches.
26CornerBlitz Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 My hunch is that he's saying that because of how they've used Chandler in clearing out space for Sammy. Makes sense.
BUFFALOKIE Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 That means we can expect this to be called against us this week.

John from Riverside Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 That means we can expect this to be called against us this week. HA... you beat me to it
Doc Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 If a receiver gets in the way of a defender who is covering another player but doesn't make contact with him, it's legal.

My hunch is that he's saying that because of how they've used Chandler in clearing out space for Sammy. Good hunch, I think. It will be something to watch for this weekend. But I thought there were at least 2 illegal picks used by SD that should have drawn flags.

I also agree with those who said Marrone is not going to say the play was illegal because he does not want to draw unnecessary attention to the Bills Offensive execution on similar plays...

No issue with the TD to Royal because of exactly what you said.
Mr. WEO Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Some of those tug jobs looked a bit suspicious, though....
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 By the way, I love how they call these "rub routes" now-- quite the euphemism. They are picks, and if you do what Allen does, it is illegal. If the refs don't call these, NFL DBs are helpless.
RJ (not THAT RJ) Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 By the way, I love how they call these "rub routes" now-- quite the euphemism. They are picks, and if you do what Allen does, it is illegal. If the refs don't call these, NFL DBs are helpless. And they don't, which means they are. Ask Wes Welker.
Fadingpain Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 May I suggest we join the party and run some rub routes ourselves? Or at least more than we have so far?
Best Player Available Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 And they don't, which means they are. Ask Wes Welker. Wes has plenty on his plate now,but your point is well taken.
Dirtbag Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Some of those tug jobs looked a bit suspicious, though.... the only way our wr's will achieve a full release off the line is by countering any tug with a rub.
