Bills not toying with Kouandjio at guard

By Joe Buscaglia

In the first three games of the regular season, the poor play of the Buffalo Bills' starting guards has been well documented. Both Chris Williams and Erik Pears have struggled in their first three weeks, as did Kraig Urbik when he came in for the injured Williams last Sunday.

It has led some to call for fifth-round pick and rookie Cyril Richardson to get a look at the starting lineup -- which very well could happen Sunday due to Williams' injury. Other fans are even campaigning for second-round pick Cyrus Kouandjio to be moved inside and train to take over at guard at some point.

@buffalobills

Doug Marrone: "We're excited about ending the first quarter at 3-1" #BUFvsHOU

Marrone: #Bills have encouraged EJ Manuel to step up into the pocket rather than escape laterally. More opportunity to make plays.

#Bills Doug Marrone on @Yankees Derek Jeter: "What makes him a top 5 Yankee is not just one moment, but his whole career" #RE2PECT

@WGR550

Marrone on bouncing back from first loss: We are very excited about being able to go on the road, compete, and win a football game

Marrone on EJ running ball: We may be calling more plays where he can run it. We just tell him to be smart

Marrone on EJ being pressured: We work on it in practice but sometimes there is no way to duplicate the pressure you see in a game

Marrone on EJ: We are still in the stages of development and progression. We are working everyday with all our young players

Marrone on Robey: He just has to let the plays come to him and not try to force things and put himself in a position where he can be exposed

Marrone on Offense: It's a long season. He may only have 5 catches (Mike Williams) but they were big catches. We just have to keep working

Marrone on Watt: He's a big guy. He has power, speed, does a great job getting hands up. It's going to be a challenge for us

@MattHammondShow

in his career, Fitzpatrick-quarterbacked teams are 9-39-1 when Fitzpatrick has 30 or more pass attempts. 22-12 when he's under 30. #Texans

interesting stat. I'm not sure that, even if Foster plays, the Texans will be able to run the ball with success on our D. Anyone know if oBrien likes to run screens? That seemed to be the only thing that worked with Forte. After that, no one has been able to run with success on the Bills.

This isn't exactly Bills/Texans related but:

If we found a long term answer this year at Punter and the special teams positions - as it seems we have done and then locking up Sanborne - I am enthused. We don't have to devote that energy to those positions.

ST locked up.

Considerably improved in comparison to last season's train wreck on ST. What a welcome change.

My theory is very strong. Hell, it's my conclusion.

We are not suffering from the injuries that we did last year. In the first couple weeks last year we were hurt by some injuries but played well. By October we had a lot of injuries at positions vital to ST - LB, DB. We were already weak at WR and OL. Now we have better players and healthy players that has made a difference. They've been able to practice week in and week out and get the reps instead of two new players a week.

Can't argue against more talented athletes and continuity.
