No, it's just kind of a thing around here now for a dozen years. Every time a Stern show comes up - twice a year maybe - you always get 2 or 3 people responding along the lines of "I don't get it. Stern isn't that funny! I can't believe he is still around, he's not relevant. He hasn't been funny in years."

Like moths to a flame someone is always drawn in.

I don't get it. Stern isn't that funny.

I often hear that Stern isn't relevant. Then I see Stern giving Joan Rivers' eulogy getting pub, then I see that Benji's hijacking of the Goodell press conference is getting pub, then I see that this guy's death is the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter. This is just in the past week or so. Maybe Stern's more relevant now than ever. Name another "relevant" radio guy who gets the guests this guy does.

You forgot America's Got Howard

summed it up perfectly for Howard Stern years ago and still pretty relevant

Researcher: The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes.

Pig Vomit: How can that be?

Researcher: Answer most commonly given? "I want to see what he'll say next."

Pig Vomit: Okay, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern?

Researcher: Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.

Pig Vomit: But... if they hate him, why do they listen?

Researcher: Most common answer? "I want to see what he'll say next."

they did a nice job of paying tribute today...painted him in a different light than what alot of us saw him in

I heard the news on the way home, saddest moment of my day.

I bought Sirius Radio when Howard moved over. I still listen to his show most days when I'm in the car. I'm not much of a fan of the sycophants and "WhacK Pack" stuff ( Though, Bigfoot's manner of speech is highly addictive, it is) but, I think Howard is in a league by himself as far as interviews go. This year alone he has had amazing sit-downs with Paul McCartney, Graham Nash, Lady Gaga, Francis Ford Coppolla, just to name a few.

His interviews are some of the most insightful and deep-reaching that most of these subjects ever give.

By the way, the recent replay of his interview with Vincent Gallo and the vitriol that the native son has for Buffalo was radio gold.

Furthermore, Howard has never been more relevant. By going on AGT and reinventing himself as a tough judge with a heart of gold has endeared him to millions of new fans. He has gone from angry young man to wise elder statesman - much like many of you on this board. :)

RIP Eric!

Isn't Hank dead, too?

And is midget the proper term to use, these days? I thought Ewok or gnome were more PC.

Hank, Kenneth Keith and now Eric the Midget/Actor,

Hank, Kenneth Keith and now Eric the Midget/Actor,

The original Big Foot, Cleft Pallet, Blue Iris, The Leather Weather Lady, The Janitor. I can remember those, there are a few more I read: Celestine,

They have their own Wiki page.*

STrange they list Ownsby as a former Wack Packer. I remember when her and Erica the gymnast were two of the hottest chicks on the show.

i'll miss hearing that little prick call the show. his outrageous demands, his arguments with everybody, and his willingness to seriously respond to the ridiculous claims callers like Gonzo Shitcock made about him all made for classic moments in the recent era of the Stern Show.

the tribute show to Eric was actually pretty touching, i thought.

Thanks Eric the Actor, you'll be missed.

It's a radio show, right?

They all seem to die at 39!
