He's not a lawyer, nor is he an expert in the field of DV. He's a symbol of the failures in this area and his role as judge, jury, and executioner needs to change. In my view a "vacation" is in order for him.

He's an expert on the NFL. For those who actually bothered to listen to his PC before running to the keyboard, he addressed that he will no longer be judge, jury and executioner in these cases and they will put together a comprehensive policy. So it is going to change.

And just as he's not going to fix everything by himself, he didn't screw up by himself either. The NFL as a whole misjudged its ability to continue sweeping DV issues under the rug. As Gregg pointed out, he's the face so he's going to take the lumps. But that doesn't mean he deserves all the blame or that anything is going to proceed differently if he goes away (other than it would create a transitional delay).

What he actually said is it's on the table. Shouldn't be on the table. Instead, it should be an independent board that metes out player and club/league discipline.

Yes you're right. I always thought he was a lawyer, since he was the point man on all negotiations during Tags' reign..

It's a common misconception.

He said they would hash that out between the league, the union and the independent advisers to come up with the policy. I don't know what else he could have said at this point -- clearly he can't just announce a new policy without input from those others or we're back to square one.

Aside from media people who just want to keep attracting eyeballs by making Goodell the story, what else did people really expect or want to hear?

That Tom Donahoe is his replacement?

Trust me. This story isn't over with regard to what the Ravens and the NFL knew and when they knew it.

@OTLonESPN

OTL REPORT: Purposeful misdirection by Ravens, scant investigation by NFL in Ray Rice case. @DVNJr with the report. http://es.pn/1BUZq8E

We all knew after the first video came out that Rice obviously knocked his lady out. The rest of this has been grandstanding.

What if he isn't "fined" but the NFL institutes a tough conduct policy and contributes $10 million to the fund?

I'm okay with that as long as he personally contributes (even if not a penalty). He is all about accountability and I want to see some from him. With that being said, I would have hoped that in the 9 days since he last surfaced that could have been done prior to the press conference. Everything that they do feels so reactionary.

In which case people would be here ranting about him trying to 'buy off his problems with a tiny fraction of his salary'. It's pretty obvious from the lynch mob mentality that a lot of people aren't going to be satisfied no matter what happens -- it's part of our modern age -- some people just need to have something to get all worked up about.

And of course it's reactionary. The NFL (and the media) has ignored DV forever, and now suddenly it's front page news. They are scrambling to both contain the PR damage, and change the process so they can limit future problems. That's how organizations respond to this type of crisis.

Exactly. The media jackals will continue to harp on that because it's the most sensationalized part of the whole mess.

Yup, and it's the same people who move in a circle from reporting to PR. Same people, different jobs.

LOVE BENJI

He was with Elisa Jordana, is looks like. Damn she looks good.

Ah yes. Welcome to the USA. You know, the land of the free and home of the brave.

And where we have a constitutional right to freedom of expression.

Unless you intend to piss off rich A-holes with more power than you.

Then your rights are zero.

LOL.

Nothing new here.

I don't know if this is directed at me but if you go back through I raised my issues with Goodell and what I thought would be a reasonable solution. If "ignorance is not an excuse" I am not sure what his excuse is?

And if the new ESPN story is true, there re a lot more questions that need to be answered in Owings Mills, MD than at the NFL HQ at this point.

It's the Ravens and the NFL HQ (Goodell) if both entities were involved in a coverup.

count me in the group that said we did not know what happened in that elevator. We had a spirited thread here on the subject . Dwight in Philly was adamant Ray Rice was scum, and he has been proven right. I was adamant we had to see what happened in the elevator, and i was an Idiot.
