klos63 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) Did Sean Payton when he was suspended for a year in bounty gate? Remember, Goodell said ignorance of what's going on in your house (with his house being the NFL league office) is no excuse. I don't have the rule book in front of me but my guess is there is something in there about deliberate attempts to injure players. And paying someone to injure other people is definitely illegal. 26CornerBlitz Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 His screw up was that he didn't punish players more than the criminal justice system did. Stone him... Yep nothing in between no consequences and stoning.
A Dog Named Kelso Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The league could have gotten it at any point. I am not sure that I am following?? From what experts say the NFL could have obtained that tape with a phone call (which supposedly happened). I was under the assumption that NJ law restricted them from obtaining evidence in an ongoing case unless it was directly from the authorities(but I could be wrong). Regardless, I just think it was probably easier to obtain by TMZ once the casino was closed. That is all I am saying. I am not contesting that, if they were interested, the NFL could not have gotten their hands on it. Just it may not have been as easily obtained as it was by TMZ.
Kirby Jackson Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Goodell isn't negotiating with anyone... No, but call him the mediator. He is there to help reach a solution.

klos63 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 That was Gregg Williams. and from what I know, Payton had been warned about it and did not stop it.
KD in CA Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Yep nothing in between no consequences and stoning. Yep nothing in between no consequences and resignation.
26CornerBlitz Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 Yep nothing in between no consequences and resignation. Of course there is. At least there is for me. IMO, he should suspend and fine himself with a resultant forfeiture of salary during that interval.
A Dog Named Kelso Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Maybe I am not getting my point across. I do not expect him to be fired. I completely understand why the owners are happy with him. I think that he is a bad commissioner and his decisions are putting a black eye on a teflon product. It is snowballing at the moment. He needs to stop the negative momentum before he becomes a sacrificial lamb. If sponsors start pulling away he will move to the hot seat. Did you think that before the Ray Rice issue? Just curious. I too agree but I my feelings came during the CBA dealings
Kirby Jackson Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Did you think that before the Ray Rice issue? Just curious. I too agree but I my feelings came during the CBA dealings My feelings go back to bounty gate (keep in mind I live in NOLA). He came across as dishonest, disingenuous and he is never empathetic. It is tough to trust someone like that. The punishment changed as the details came out (which is becoming a theme). I wish that he showed up today and fined himself like $2M that was to be donated to domestic violence. I think that would have set a good tone. I don't need to hear him say that he screwed up; I want to see some accountability.

So you'd prefer he delay fixing the league's personal conduct policies in exchange for satisfying your need to have a man you've never met make slightly less money this year. Careful, don't let your torch burn out.

KD in CA Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The changes certainly can happen without him. You honestly believe he comes up with policies himself? Of course not, but he's the commissioner so obviously he's central to the process. What is the priority here, to fix what's wrong or to get a pound of flesh for angry morons like 'Stopthepain'? Let's move on and fix football. And for me that hopefully means tossing guys like Rice for good.
GG Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Excuse me? You really are a mouth breather, aren't you? Soooooo angry at those evil rich people who are keeping you down, huh? Hey, Mortimer, how about another $1 bet?
DC Tom Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 His screw up was that he didn't punish players more than the criminal justice system did. Stone him... Actually, he did punish players more than the criminal justice system did...
blzrul Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Goodell's a tool but he's doing his job. His job is taking care of 32 people: period. The players don't like him. Now the fans aren't crazy about him. I understand and agree with due process - but depending on the infraction many citizens would be canned too if we were busted on these kinds of charges. Now the players have contracts, but they also have conduct standards to which they agreed in those contracts. I blame Goodell because I don't like him, and I don't think he's done any good for football, but each owner can and should show a little integrity with these guys. Heck, Least Mode FINALLY dispensed with his last criminal charge here in Seattle after...2 years? 3 years? WTF.

He's a symbol of the failures in this area and his role as judge, jury, and executioner needs to change. In my view a "vacation" is in order for him. Edited September 19, 2014 by 26CornerBlitz

26CornerBlitz Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 Actually, he is a lawyer. Goodell is a 1981 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania with a degree in economics.[8][5][9][10]
