BADOLBILZ Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Commercial they are currently running, when they first show the TV's it's JK dropping back for the Houston Gamblers. I have the coaches film of that game...."the greatest game nobody saw"....between Houston(Jim Kelly) and LA(Steve Young) on vhs somewhere and it was amazing quality direct from film so it kinda passes for HD. 30 years later and USFL footage is still being sold as stock pro football footage.
mrags Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 It's not sold. There's no rights to it that anyone cares about. Anyone can use it without having to pay.

BADOLBILZ Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 It's not sold. There's no rights to it that anyone cares about. Anyone can use it without having to pay. You may be right. Halcyon Days owned the rights at one time though and using it in commercials is different than for private use. If I remember correctly Mike Tollin sent me that tape after I bugged him about it for a year. The game was blacked out and there was no broadcast so an actual tv game tape does not exist. At the time I was calling Halcyon Days there was virtually no interest in the USFL but he had sent some stuff to a few collectors. About a year or two later a lot of USFL stuff started appearing online as people started to get nostalgic for it(and forgetting how pissed they were when the league was raiding their NFL teams rosters). I had a bunch of other Gamblers games but they were poor quality like you see on ESPN Classic or worse. He ended up making a 30 for 30 on the USFL. I will look for the tape this fall it's in a warehouse in storage but I think it was in a hard case so it should be fine, when I find it I will let everyone know.
rsxfirefighter Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) Everything finds its way to the internet....is this the game? Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: Edited September 19, 2014 by rsxfirefighter
BADOLBILZ Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 Everything finds its way to the internet....is this the game? Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: No that is from the Astrodome. Nothing like the aerial show in the LA. There was no tv broadcast of the game. All that remains is a silent film of Kelly and Young going off in crazy shootout in front of friends and family in the Coliseum. There was a great SI article about the game the title of which is where the name "Greatest game nobody ever saw" or whatever came from. It explained why there was no broadcast. Kelly and Young would later meet in the "no punts" game in SF years later.

Ted William's frozen head Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Kelly and Young would later meet in the "no punts" game in SF years later. I have a tape of that game. Funny. I didn't see it on You Tube.
