K-9 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 however, to some degree, they happen to everyone so we shouldnt look at this game and claim we only gave up 201 while around the league everyone else had the full days numbers. I am in no way looking at this game and claiming we gave up 201 yards. Not by a long shot. We gave up what we gave up. I'm simply saying we were thrilled to give up the running yards at the end of the half and the underneath passing yards towards the end of the game. GO BILLS!!!
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 here' one stat i like...going into tonight's game, the bills rank 5th in points scored.
Max997 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) What I noticed... Time of possesion and first downs. BFLO in both games got beat in those columns... That does have to change. the kickoff return surrounded by two Miami scoring drives had a lot ot do with that Edited September 15, 2014 by Max997
Kelly the Dog Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Stats don't kill people. Bullets kill people. Stats don't kill people. Nigel Bradham kills people!!
RJ (not THAT RJ) Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 To add another "meaningless stat" to the mix, consider red zone efficiency. The Bills were in the red zone three times late in the 4th quarter when the game was already more or less decided. For whatever reason, the offense made little effort to score TDs, relying on simple runs and safe passes. They ended up attempting three FGs, making two and killing multiple minutes from the clock. But today you can read that the Bills went 1-6 in the red zone, as if every one of those attempts meant the same thing in the course of the game.

John from Riverside Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 All I know is that we pretty much owned the fins in all aspects of the game for pretty much the entire game....... I know we were only up 9-0 at one point......but that was complete domination.
justnzane Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 As one of TSW's resident statistical experts (my specialty for my masters was in statistics and probability), no stat is insignificant to a coach as they look to exploit any weakness that a team may have. Having conceded late yardage with a solid lead an opposing coach may believe that should his team be down to the Bills they can stick to the run longer in the game before becoming pass happy. The stats can be customizable and specific to the point of understanding where are the weakest spots in the defense to run at or how a team performs when throwing specific routes and distances. Statistics are everywhere and a blind man fails to recognize the relevance of every play. Furthermore, coaches have tendencies that are exploitable over time.
Deranged Rhino Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Stats don't kill people. Nigel Bradham kills people!! I just feel like I have to give you a drink every time you say that. It's worked so far and is much cooler than my stupid sweatshirt.

rockpile Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Interesting supposition. I disagree, though. Your point on the first half is well taken, but down by 19 with 2 minutes to play...come on. For a while I've thought about what would constitute "garbage" time, and it seems there would have to be a ratio of point margin to seconds left in the game. There is a threshold from which no team (yet) has come back. I'm very curious to know what it is. The problem with stats vs garbage stats, is that now you are having someone decide what stats matter. That is kind of like the officials, and what constitutes a penalty now.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 His point was clear, it just organically transformed. I can turn it into an EJ thread, if you'd rather read that. Haha; isn't that where all threads organically head?
Kelly the Dog Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Haha; isn't that where all threads organically head? Actually it's blatantly obvious that EJ sucks because there are never a bunch of loud posters who respond to every thread that EJ is a Hall of Famer. 20 realists that repeatedly say he sucks on every thread. ZERO Realists that know he is going to be a Hall of Famer. Know why? Because no one can tell right now that he will be a Hall of Famer. That would be crazy. But you can say for sure that he sucks. All you have to do is just know.

Sure that makes a LOT of sense. Cause and effectiveness are not synonymous. Someone posts a "rah rah EJ sux" post. Kelly and the gang post some sarcastic posts, then go into other threads NOT about EJ and post the same stupid sarcastic post. Now, not only have they given the "EJ sux" crowd exactly what they wanted in terms of a response, they've gone into another thread to show how "funny," they are. It's tiresome, really. Kelly's post here, not to single him out, is a shining example of one of the reasons why every thread turns into an EJ thread. Some people just can't stop themselves. Probably not going to happen. Edited September 16, 2014 by The Dean
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 This thread is meta now. It's not about EJ, it's about threads that are about EJ.
