Yes, because of opportunity. If given the chance to trade Chandler straight up for Zach Ertz or Dennis Pitta or Martellus Bennett or Kyle Rudolph or Charles Clay or Jordan Reed, 100% of GMs would make that move. His numbers WAY overstate his value. Chandler is not in the top 1/2 of the league no matter how you slice it.

Pretty much this.

I think he has the potential to be a perfectly average starter, or a decent backup. But not much more.

I think we are very lucky to have Chandler. He got a bad rap as the whipping boy here last year (when he led the team in receiving). However, there are only a few TE's throughout the league that are better than him, and most teams in the league don't have a TE who is even half as good. He might've dropped some big passes in the past, but damn, he can make some real fine, clutch catches, too. I don't think Gronk could have even made that catch Chandler made along the sideline last weekend. That was pure beauty.

You can name 15 TE's you'd have over Chandler? Really?

I'd love to hear them.

He was a FA this year and nobody, repeat, nobody, wanted him. I'm not sure he even got a tryout. Maybe one. But he didn't come close to getting any offer and had to come crawling back to the Bills for not a lot of money. That should tell you all you need to know.

He's below average. But he is capable of making highlight reel catches like last week. That was terrific. He's a limited athlete, marginal blocker, fair route runner, and pretty good hands, who doesn't make the catches he needs to (like the one slightly behind him in game that was not a great pass either) but sometimes makes a very tough catch. He does try though, is a very good guy, and remarkably, he's the best TE we have had in about 10 years.

I would trade him straight up for:

J. Graham, G. Graham, Gronk, Gates, Gresham, Pitta, Ebron, ASJ, Nickalus, Witten, Daniels, Rudolph, Eiffert, Cameron, Thomas, Clay, Olsen, Reed, Miller, Ertz, Bennett, Fleener, Cook, Davis and Dwayne Allen.

I went to 25. Obviously a few are debatable but I believe that if any one of those guys had the same opportunity that Chandler has they would do better (based mostly on talent). He isn't the worst player in the league but as I said earlier his stats are much better than he is. We are seeing it now that the Bills have a good receiving core. He is back to being the below average player that he is and that is okay. It is an area to upgrade next year.

Okay, but you also should look at it the other way. How many of those guys on that list have a top 5 QB? Top ten? Top 15? Clearly ASJ and Ebron haven't done anything yet, but you can't tell me Chandler doesn't put up 900 9TD's on Denver.

I still think Chandler gets a bad rap around here. A year ago everyone wanted Brandon Pettigrew, thought he was wayyyy better than Chandler. Pettigrew sucked, and always sucked. Looking just at the stats or a couple games of all of these guys and comparing them to all 16 of Chandler's games is a bit unfair.

Also, some of those guys have way better opportunities than Chandler. Olsen and Graham are the best recievers on their team, because their WR corp is depleted. Likewise with Cameron.

I don't care if they haven't done anything yet. If Detroit called and said "we will give you Ebron for Chandler" what do you think the Bills response would be? That's the point.

In addition, he has gotten all kinds of opportunities. If any of those guys had his targets their play would be superior IMO. If you doubt that there are 15 better you need to remove at least 10 from that list that you would not trade Chandler for.

Gragg hasn't been a game changer yet... but I like what he's been doing on the field so far. I'm kind of wonder if he'll develop into something...

I am curious about Gragg too...if he can catch worth a lick, he has intriguing size and speed.

I also am not a Chandler hater. I don't think he is an elite tight end, by any means, but I think he is maybe just a little better than average. Not remarkably awful as some here carry on about him.

Yep. That's the thing. He's the best we have. He's the best TE we have had in a long, long time. He's not a liability. He does make plays at times. He's a great guy and good teammate. He tries. There are not a ton of very good TEs in the league (although there are 20+ I would rather have than him. And a lot of high picks are busts. So here we are.

But a dynamic TE on this offense with these RB and these WR would be deadly. That's probably asking too much though considering the price we paid for Watkins 2 #1s, Woods #2, spiller #1.

We also took a calculated risk on Moeki and it just didn't pan out.
