why would the suspects surviving family give the investigator their DNA?

 

if it's negative they clear his name, if it's positive they get their fifteen minutes.

Who'd want to be known as jack the rippers great nieces and nephews? Look up some of the victims photos and the letters he wrote to the police, that dude was &@ed up, even by serial killer standards. If the story is real my only guess they got paid a decent amount of money for the DNA samples.

I don't think anyone would want to be know as JtR's relatives, but that shouldn't preclude them from doing the right thing. They had nothing to do with him.
