Hplarrm Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 The full video of Rice is disturbing. So the police saw the video I'm guessing and nothing came of it? There is also some commentary from national media (on ESPN and NPR) which is not only questioning whether Rice got off light but that: 1. The team is liable for censure ship for waiting so long before taking incredibly light action on Rice. The team is also liable for censure ship for participating in the media staging of this as an event where the beaten wife is sent out to apologize for her part in this (she used her face to attack Rice's hand) 2. The district attorney failed to do his job when he did not charge Rice with an aggravated assault when he punched his fiancée unconscious 3. The NFL and Goodell are liable for censure for taking the actions they already acknowledge were wrong. It ain't over for a bunch of folks who may lose their jobs over the way this was managed. This includes imho, members of the teams press operation which allowed Rice to lie that his actions were in anyway justified and cooperated in his fiancé taking any blame for this. This group can include PR flacks ir maybe the HC. A victim might be the DA for not charging Rice with aggravated assault A victim might be Goodell.

BuffaloBillsForever Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) Goodell interviewed Rice and Rice's fiance, but in one of the most ignorant and irresponsible blunders ever, Goodell interviewed Rice's wife with Rice in the room! Surely Goodell never consulted with a domestic violence expert or else he would have known that you never interview a victim in front of her attacker. http://www.tampabay....goodell/2196746 You can add this to the list of Goodells failures. If there has ever been a commissioner of any sport to get axed, it would be deserving for this clown. Edited September 9, 2014 by BuffaloBillsForever
26CornerBlitz Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 @NBCSports Ray Rice is Roger Goodell's biggest mistake and it's one he'll never escape, writes @RattoCSN. http://tw.nbcsports.com/rq8 pic.twitter.com/10ROB08mfo

This will really hurt him. Someone said earlier that it seems like an awesome job but it's a thankless job and that is somewhat true. He did a lot to himself, however, trying to become Kenesaw Mountain Landis.

Surely Goodell never consulted with a domestic violence expert or else he would have known that you never interview a victim in front of her attacker. Not his job. He shouldn't have been interviewing her at all. The Commissioner of the NFL, as Commissioner of the NFL, has absolutely no business interviewing domestic abuse victims. The very thought that he had to personally insert himself into a domestic violence case is his biggest mistake.
Nick the Greek Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 The full video of Rice is disturbing. So the police saw the video I'm guessing and nothing came of it? His fiance (now wife ) would have to ask to press charges against him. As she's been by his side since the incident, it doesn't look like she has any interest in doing so. Ray's money is too good.
CSBill Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 i enjoy that the vick to buffalo incident made the top 6. shouldn't we thank him for that?

No, in most (if not all) states domestic assaults do not require a complaining victim any more. With good reason - too many women were too intimidated to press charges, knowing it would just lead to another beating. Still requires evidence, though...of which they had plenty on Rice. And something did come of it - he was charged, people. Aggravated assault. He plea-bargained out of jail time in exchange for counseling.
CSBill Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) Basically, what Goodell has done is bring law and order to the league. Painful as it is, it is best for all involved. And by the way, any time you are dealing with people, there will be inconsistencies. All-in-all, that has been a very good thing for the NFL. Hard to find any evidence that anything he has done has hurt the league. That's why people are willing to spend a billion dollars to buy a team that has not been in the play-offs in 14 years. Mango Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 What I don't understand is why this video even matters? This should have been the original outcome of the Rice incident. He admitted to assaulting her and then obviously the first video shows him dragging her unconscious body across the lobby. But...how did everyone think she became unconscious in the first place? Why did video matter? It was established he knocked her unconscious based on the first video. This doesn't change anything in my mind. We all knew this is what happened. Without hijacking the thread, and this might sound terrible. I'm glad she went unconscience the way she did. She didn't have to be stuck in an elevator taking hit after hit from a professional athlete. I would actually consider her in a weird way lucky. Imagine that tape if she doesn't go down right away.
C.Biscuit97 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Goodell is a clown & a puppet. If he had any class, he'd resign. But he won't. He'll pretend like he is sad & keep collecting his huge check. He failed horribly, just like he has done with concussion (let's add more games!). He is the worst commish in my lifetime.
