Kelly the Dog Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 With the resources we've committed to those units there's no excuse for them not to be ELITE week in and week out. What resources did we add besides Graham and Dixon, with Graham being a solid CB, too, and Dixon being a solid short yardage back?
Mr. WEO Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I don't know, this thread has too much bump potential down the road. It's one game of decent ST play...and the ST coach's incompetence is wiped away?
boyst Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Schmidt was terrific overall. Gay had surprisingly high KO while they were going deep. Usually you don't get both. Fred as PR was strange, and he muffed his chance but recovered it. CJ looked good on his one return IIRC, getting to almost the 30. Easley, as always, just gets it done. Radio guy said of one of the kicks that anything that travels that high is usually carrying people and needs a ticket. What resources did we add besides Graham and Dixon, with Graham being a solid CB, too, and Dixon being a solid short yardage back? 1 extra roster spot is huge. With the resources we've committed to those units there's no excuse for them not to be ELITE week in and week out. High expectations. Last year in week 1 we were strong in ST. Not great but strong. We lost a lot of guys and those guys had to be replaced by starters. The injuries were crucial to key ST units. The backup RB's (we had one since CJ and FJ were both starters), the backup WR's (which we barely had two starters and the depth was crazy bad), the backup DB's and LB's make up the rest and those units had a lot of problems with depth and injuries. Lets see what he can do with a solid and standard set of players.
NoSaint Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 What resources did we add besides Graham and Dixon, with Graham being a solid CB, too, and Dixon being a solid short yardage back? We carry Easley just for his special teams ability, signed a probowl special teamer in graham, added Dixon who comes with a high reputation, have guys with world class return abilities, and are giving him an extra roster spot for a 3rd kicker. He should be able to put together a consistently top notch performance. I'm not saying anything good or bad about the composition of the roster - simply that he has as much if not more than any special teams coach.
Doc Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I don't know, this thread has too much bump potential down the road. It's one game of decent ST play...and the ST coach's incompetence is wiped away? Either that or he's got so much talent on ST's that his incompetence is moot. I would like to see better returns though.

Kelly the Dog Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 You may be right. It's likely that ST "coaching" is a bit overblown anyway. It is. Good and bad. ST coaches, like all coaches, need good players. We had crappy players on ST last year. That's why Whaley went out and signed Graham and Dixon. We loved Bobby April as our ST coach because we were very good under him. Last year we were ranked near the very bottom in the entire league. The only team ranked consistently worse than us was the Raiders, coached by guess who. Bobby April.
