So my boss is a bears fan and was telling me today that if we thought we had a chance before, now we really don't because Holmes is their 5th option and who are we going to cover him with, a dime back or a LB?

Thoughts? We've had issues with Holmes in the past with the jets. I personally thought he was done before the bears signed him off his couch and also was skeptical he could pass a drug test but apparently he's playing. He looked pretty good against the browns in PS but then again it was the browns. He also was returning kicks.

Matchups.

It's all about the matchups.

I think we're going to expect Gilmore and McKelvin to handle Jeffrey/Marshall, with perhaps a Cover-1 safety (A. Williams) providing deep help. You can expect the slot WR--whether it's Holmes or Morgan--to draw Nickell Robey. That's 4 DBs committed to their top 3 targets, so that likely means either bracket coverage or a Slice coverage on M. Bennett. The matchup problem that presents is that you're stuck with only 4 rushers assuming you want to keep an underneath defender available to cover Forte out of the backfield.

The other option is to play Dime and line Corey Graham up against Jeffrey, kicking Gilmore over to cover Bennett. Then you're only committing 5 defenders to cover 4 targets (as opposed to 6 in the previous scheme); so you can afford to commit an extra defender to the QB--either as a pass rusher or a spy.

The good news is that Buffalo has the two things they need in order to match up against Chicago: depth at DB and a very formidable pass rush.
