Watched the Penn st game and they showed hurling during the half time show and it looked awesome. Kinda like Lacrosse but the stick are like paddles. Also can throw, kick, carry the ball and apparently mug the guy to get the slitter (ball). A lot better than soccer.

"Hurling (Irish: Iománaíocht/Iomáint) is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic and Irish origin, administered by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The game has prehistoric origins, has been played for over 3,000 years,[1] and is considered to be the world's fastest field sport.[1][2]

The objective of the game is for players to use a wooden stick called a hurley (in Irish a camán, pronounced /ˈkæmən/ or /kəˈmɔːn/) to hit a small ball called a sliotar /ˈʃlɪtər/ between the opponents' goalposts either over the crossbar for one point, or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for one goal, which is equivalent to three points."

I thought this was going to be a thread about what you saw behind Clancy's Bar at closing time. :)

Seriously though, the sport looks pretty cool.

Another Alan Branch thread?

Funny. You got there first. Clancy's Bar sounds more Irish, but that was the hurling I was thinking of.

A friend, now older but once a leading player, has a bumper sticker that reads, "Give Blood/Play Hurling."

Kind of like that other bumper sticker: "It Takes Leather Balls To Play Rugby"

Interesting. Jerry Sandusky used to mug the sitter to get to the kid.

Anyway, probably better than watching Penn St. football.

Jerry Sandusky getting to the kid jokes are funny now? Really?
