Buffaloed in Pa Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 It is what it is. We need to slow things down. Eat the clock. We have the D. EJ is not ready to run this fast paced O. Just like Big Ben wasn`t his first years. This is what I would do. Did we ever win a super bowl with the no huddle ?
MDH Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Then what this team needs now: an entirely new offensive line.
Buffaloed in Pa Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 I think the line will pan out. Power run game, eat the clock. We are not going to get into a scoring contest with anyone.
G-Daddy Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Marrone is supposed to be oline coach guru...not showing it. Also, did we ever win a super bowl with any huddle?
MDH Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I think the line will pan out. Power run game, eat the clock. We are not going to get into a scoring contest with anyone. I agree in principle. What this also calls for is scrapping the hurry up, a D that can get off the field on 3rd downs and a punter who can help win the field position battle. Of course, you're right, all those things appear easier to achieve than winning shootouts with this offence.
K-No Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 With the new illegal contact rules and all the flags, every team should be throwing 80% of the plays.
Buffaloed in Pa Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 We won`t have any receivers healthy anyway. High throws and behind crossing patterns will finish them off.
sjjr Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Agree and it should be what we see most of the season. It's a huge offensive line with a stable of rbs built to wear teams down. The pace should vary based on matchups. EJ is best in play action.
Max997 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Hackett and Marrone have no idea what they want to do. The offense is built to be a power running team which makes perfect sense considering a young extremely raw QB but for some reason these guys want to run a fast paced offense which didnt work last year and hasnt looked any different this year. Everyone keeps saying they havent even go into the playbook yet...what are they going to say when the offense looks exactly the same week 1 and how it has looked since last preseason?
Buffaloed in Pa Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 We`ll know soon enough. Whaley and Marrone are not seeing eye to eye about something. I think it might be about Buddy Hackett and his course of play.
dubs Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I agree. Mostly because we simply can't throw the ball. Someone else commented that the increase in defensive penalties means teams should throw, and that's true. But that assumes the team has a capable QB. We don't. Ground em and pound em. That's not ideal, but likely our best chance for success.
Dibs Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Power running game? I know it is only preseason but at this point any running game would be an improvement.
Buffaloed in Pa Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 Has to be. Wear them down. a lot of 14-10 game scores.
purple haze Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 It is what it is. We need to slow things down. Eat the clock. We have the D. EJ is not ready to run this fast paced O. Just like Big Ben wasn`t his first years. This is what I would do. Did we ever win a super bowl with the no huddle ? Then you want an offensive line, because out of what we saw the past two weeks, that's a bigger problem than EJ. They can't run block worth a damn.
jethro_tull Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Marrone is supposed to be oline coach guru...not showing it. Also, did we ever win a super bowl with any huddle? When he was hired I looked up the stats of the Jets when he was o-line coach. Unfortunately a case could be made that the O-line regressed under his tenure. In 2002 (Marrone's first year) the Jets offense was 15th. In his 4th and final year, the offense was 29th.
prissythecat Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Unless there is some miraculous improvement in Oline play. We won't see much production from our running backs this year. CJ and Fred won't do very well when the opposing defense is able to get into the backfield with ease.
John from Riverside Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 What I want to know is with this HUGE offensive line why are we not just owning in the running game.
Buffaloed in Pa Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 I think the O-line will come along. It`s new,but their is some talent their. E.J. needs to hit some throws when called on.
