BillsFan-4-Ever Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 What dumb@ss gives a 9 year old an automatic weapon? her idiot parents and the idiot instructor who allowed it morons I wasn't sure if this should have been posted on the PPP or not so I just waited for it to appear
DC Tom Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 her idiot parents and the idiot instructor who allowed it morons I wasn't sure if this should have been posted on the PPP or not so I just waited for it to appear Instructor's fault, primarily. It's his professional responsibility to tell the parents "No, she's not shooting a !@#$ing Uzi, you morons." The parents were just unholy idiots. The instructor was directly responsible for caving in to unholy idiots. The lesson being: never give in to unholy idiots. They can kill you with their stupid.
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 I thought common sense dictated putting a weapon in a young child's hand? Nothing above a .22 before the age of 14 was usually the generally accepted rule, unless you are raising a monster of a child like the hog/boar hunter in Arkansas... Even then, why not give it time, they grow up so fast as it is. It wasn't until my son was 14 before he discharged a shotgun... Heck, but what do I know... He didn't eat peanut butter until he was 3! I wasn't sure if this should have been posted on the PPP or not so I just waited for it to appear I am a neutral kinda guy when it come to the PPP side of gun rights... I can go both ways. My original post has nothing to do with PPP... And my subsequent posts continue to do so. I Can't see why it shouldn't get posted here if it stays sane and within the rules... Many other topics bridge the gap. I am all for taking this girl to the range... WTF was the instructor thinking... Was he the rangemaster? If not, what do they have to say about the deal? Seems they were running a pretty loose ship to make an egregious lapse in judgment like that.

I agree the instructor should have known better. he won't make that mistake again.... too soon?

This really isn't a "gun rights" issue, unless you're a truly rabid anti-gun person who can't see beyond the gun. Most people who are not extremists are going to be able to see that the real issue is that, pro- or anti-gun, firearms instruction done improperly is dangerous and stupid, which is what the real issue here is. he won't make that mistake again.... too soon? You're asking me? I'd have said that before he hit the ground.

Which is precisely what the pro-gun crowd on this site has been saying in this thread. Imagine that, a poster who doesn't read things but posts a knee-jerk thought.

I was just reinforcing EII's observation that to most this isn't really a political topic as much as a "Darwin Award" topic.

DC Tom Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 The parents are from New Jersey Couldn't be. Ed's parents have taken him to three firing ranges in New Jersey, and he never shot an instructor.

Ted William's frozen head Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 The first step an instructor should take in instructing a 9-year old to shoot an Uzi is "You are not strong enough to handle an Uzi" and take it away. Because safety first. Any firearms instructor that gives anyone a firearm they cannot handle should not be a firearms instructor. Pink slipped.........errrr........red slipped.

Rob's House Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) I think it may be unfair to put too much blame on the parents, depending on their experience with guns. Anyone who's ever shot a 9mm should know better. But if these ass holes just know what they've seen on TV and this was a new experience for them, I can at least kinda see how they'd trust that the supposed expert had it under control.
