We all know if EJ is hurt for any length of time the season is over. It may be a lost season even if he doesn't get hurt.

But it makes no sense to cut a reserve offensive lineman, a WR that can play special teams, or an extra DT in favor of a QB that is not a rookie developmental project. It is highly unlikely anyone will sign Thad Lewis or Tuel if he is cut as well. They will both be available later in the year if EJ gets hurt.

Thoughts?

IN!

I missed the whole IN joke, but I've been thinking the same thing in regards to carrying 2. It's clear Tuel is nothing more than a 3rd option going forward. I'd only carry 2.

Most people using the "IN" response have missed the joke as well. It's not really applicable to this thread

I can imagine 3 QBs being on the roster for week 1 while the 3rd QB learns the offense with Tuel getting cut shortly thereafter.

But I agree, there's no need for 3 QBs.

agreed. dump the third qb to make room for more kickers: regular field goal/PAT kicker, kickoff specialist, and onside kick specialist.

the kickoff specialist and onside kick specialist could be on the field at the same time so that the other team never knows what's coming. you could also bring the kickoff specialist on during the PAT just to make it extra confusing for the defense. you could even sprinkle the punter in there if you so desire. the permutations are endless.

you can never have enough kickers!

There are plenty of roster spots to carry 3 QBs. I doubt any WR, OL, or DL that is cut is worth keeping anyway. Going along with your premise.....doubtful the linemen or WR will be picked up either. There are also 10 practice squad spots to keep players in reserve...such as a linemen or WR

Yea - no point goign forward with 3 QBs. The idea that Tuel has shown enough to be picked up is far fetched and even if there is a risk he does and therefore can't go on our PS.... so what? The sky won't fall. But they might carry 3 until the other guy has learned the offense, it would be risky going in with EJ plus a bloke who has just got through the door. We all saw the Josh Freeman MNF mess last season.

My thought is a third QB is more important then a backup who will never see the field and isn't any better then a street free agent or a practice squad player available at anytime throughout the season.

Given the injury and performance issues at the position, I think we ought to keep as many QBs as we can.

Agreed. If EJ goes down for a few games, we'll need someone to back up his backup. Even if that guy is on the PS and can be called up.

This team needs 3 QBs more than other team, mostly due to very, very, very poor play from the position from top to bottom, and extremely likely that EJ will be injured in a way that leaves them with only 2. so, I understand the OPs notion that if we cut Tuel, He'll be there if we needed to re-sign him, but there's no guarantee, and while I love Freddie, he's not an option at QB for an entire game.
