The Big Cat Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) So, no chatter today about Kiko not being shelved for the season? Edited August 26, 2014 by The Big Cat
26CornerBlitz Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 http://www.buffalobi...76-91cbc25ac2b5 The designation means he no longer counts toward the team’s roster total, and it’s expected he won’t suit up this season.
FireChan Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 huh? http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/71526/bills-place-kiko-alonso-on-nfi-list
BillnutinHouston Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Just to clarify, this from buffalobills.com: "Being on Reserve/NFI means anywhere between the end of Week 6 (Oct. 14th) and the end of Week 11 (Nov. 18th) that Alonso, if cleared to do so, could begin practicing with the team. His first day of practice would kick start a 21-day evaluation period where the team could determine whether he would be fit to return to the active roster or being placed on season-ending Reserve/NFL." Seems that the Bills brain trust believe in the "Legend of Kiko" too.
NoSaint Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Actually large cat, more likely, he will still not be back but he won't accrue a season like he would on ir
Deranged Rhino Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I know ACL's are weird injuries, but when I was at camp I walked and chatted with Kiko for a brief second while he walked out to his car. He was in flip-flops, which I found odd considering the lack of support but he was walking fine, no limp. Not that that matters much with an ACL, but I found it interesting.

It'd probably be better if he had some practice reps late in the season to prepare him for OTAs and 2015 camp if he is able. It's probably better than 15 months away from football if his body is healed.

plenzmd1 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Actually large cat, more likely, he will still not be back but he won't accrue a season like he would on ir He did this working out getting easy for the season no? If they did this to him , seems to me kind of a Richard move. Not that I put any stock in that stupid poll, but moves like this must reverberate through the players no? Is it possible they could move him to IR later and he gets his season accrued? I know as a fan I should like this move as it keeps him out of UFA status another year, just seems wrong to me if I understand your post Saint

That must have been one heck of a conversation. (Save punchline for the evil board)

Jamie Nails Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Can we please throw a question mark on the title of this thread? It currently could give some the wrong impression.

Not that I put any stock in that stupid poll, but moves like this must reverberate through the players no? Not really from the team's perspective. With CBA severely restricting off season control and organized activities by the team, putting him on the non football PUP sends a message that if players want to work out one their own, they do so at their own risk. I'm guessing the treatment would be totally different if Kiko suffered his mystery injury in a Bills facility.

I have to believe a lot of this boils down the legalese that dictates the processes. So, what you might call a 'Richard' move might in fact be what every team is legally compelled to do. Not really from the team's perspective. I'm guessing the treatment would be totally different if Kiko suffered his mystery injury in a Bills facility. I also completely agree with this. Since the teams have so little control over their players' off-season activities, where is the line drawn for what constitutes a happenstance that would keep them on the hook?

We can put him on IR for any year ending injury but with it being away from the team we have the option to go to the NFI list as well.

You can do a whole lot without an ACL, certainly walking or running without a limp....after the initial injury has subsided. Very strong leg muscles surrounding the knee along with very good reaction time lets a person get by ALMOST all of the time without an ACL. The problem is that when athletics are involved, the forces on the knee can be great. If the blow or twist to the knee is unexpected or if the force is too great, the knee will buckle. When it buckles under great force, it usually takes other structures along with it like other ligaments, bone, tendon, etc. and you have compounded the problems

I guess I don't understand the fans' belief that the Bills would have been right to do Kiko a solid in this instance. What precedent does it set when the same thing happens next year to a far less important player?
