I was curious how much better Kelly's 10 games were vs EJs.

Jim Kelly: Age 26 - 3 wins 7 losses, 174/284 61.27%, 2200 yards, 13 tds, 12 ints, 27 rushes 126 yards 0 tds

EJ Manuel: Age 23 - 4 wins 6 losses, 180/306 58.82%, 1972 yards, 11 tds, 9 ints, 53 rushes 186 yards 2 tds

Nice comparison. Very comparable in terms of productivity. Let's hope for our purposes that the later part of EJ's career looks more like the later part of Jimbo's but with wins in the big dance instead of losses.

Right...

Lets compare a guy who is lost and was tabbed as having issues coming out of college to a HOF QB. Wow....

Amen.

There's gotta be better perspective than just comparing stats to indicate the greatness of a player. While we're at it, how about comparing Johnny U in the late 50s/early 60s to Montana in the early to mid 80s?

how do both of them compare to jp losman?

JP: 2 wins 8 losses, 128/211, 51.00%, 1504 yards, 8 tds, 8 ints, 32 rushes 154 yards 0 tds.

Watching the old tapes one of the great things about Jimbo is that his QB play really softened up the running lanes. You had to respect his ability to strike you dead in the 10+ yard range. Manuel's QB play as it stands actually clogs up the running lanes.

And that was after two years of pro ball and a college career that better prepared him for the next level.

Cuga's right. Thank God there wasn't an internet back then.

Kelly was helluva better when he had an ALL-PRO offensive line protecting him, specifically Hull, Ritcher and John Davis.

LOL. "Oh the audacity to compare Manuel to Jimbo!"

It's a fair comparison as it points to the EXTREME rarity for ANY rookie to come into the league and take it by storm. And Kelly had two years of pro ball under his belt under one of the most innovative offensive minds in the game to boot. Not to mention four years with Howard Schnellenberger at Miami.

If nothing else the comparison provides a little perspective.

No different than the dozen of "Would you trade EJ for _____ right now?" threads. I know you like those threads though.

Four Pro Bowlers and/or All Pros and a fifth in Davis that deserved it as well. That line made it possible for Marchibroda to spread defenses and have at it. I doubt we'll ever see the likes of a group like that again.

It's absolutely incredible to me that some people would take what the OP said and twist it to mean "EJ is going to be as good as Jim Kelly."

You're flat haters, or flat stupid. Sorry.

(Not really.)
