filthymcnasty08 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Watching them basically laugh at the GMen so far in a (meaningless) pre-season game. I have to admit, the Jets seem to me like one of those teams that could click and be very scary. They're using CJ2K exactly how I wish we would use Spiller….designed plays to get him outside and in space. They then pound inside with Ivory. O-Line looks good in the run game….hard to say with the pass protection as the GMen have no rush. Decker was a great addition as a possession WR - there's chemistry already with Geno. They need Hill to be the deep threat or they will have a hard time stretching D's. Their D was close to championship caliber last year. Coples looks a lot leaner and more comfortable- showed freakish speed off the edge breaking up running plays in the backfield. They were rushing 4 and getting to Eli. Most importantly, Geno looks a LOT less lost out there…throwing the ball with a lot of zip and accuracy. We know they're going to be a very good defensive team. On the O-side the run/screen game looks tight already….If Geno makes some strides in running a controlled passing game , they have the making of a stingy D, ball control nightmare. No doubt Rexy has a chip on his shoulder from last year…. Looking like no gimme's in the division F!@#$#….must be us again
FluffHead Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) They are always more physical and tougher than us since Rex has been there. I think we have improved in those departments but they still have the edge. Edited August 23, 2014 by FluffHead
FluffHead Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 They have no QB. Not one. It's a better situation than we have here. EJ/geno is a wash QB dog killer > Baddeus and Fuel
No Cease Fires Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 "Their D was close to championship caliber last year." In what universe?
PromoTheRobot Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Again, let me clarify that its only preseason, but Geno has looked good so far in preseason and Vick is probably the best back up in the league....Do we have a QB? Vick? Best backup? Sniffing glue will kill you, man.
filthymcnasty08 Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 "Their D was close to championship caliber last year." In what universe? The same one where we say that our D is top tier…..they were 11 overall last year, we were 10.
Wayne Cubed Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Yea, solid defense which you pointed to their pass defense problems and now that "championship" Jest run defense is getting gashed 13 carries 67 yards over 5 YPC...
YoloinOhio Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 The gang green is going to have a very hard time covering anyone with that secondary. Worth noting since they face the NFC north WRs, and yeah I'll say it, ours twice.

Jennings broke one for 23 to skew your YPC average. 44 yards on 12 carries is high 3's YPC + one big play. Edited August 23, 2014 by filthymcnasty08
No Cease Fires Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) The same one where we say that our D is top tier…..they were 11 overall last year, we were 10. Both were far from championship caliber. But the Jets were insanely inconsistent, looking like world beaters one week, giving up career highs to EJ the next. Edited August 23, 2014 by No Cease Fires
YoloinOhio Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 We definitely have the advantage at WR vs their secondary, the question is can EJ get them the ball and not throw it in the dirt or 10 yards over their head? he did last year against better CBs and with worse WRs.
FluffHead Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 We definitely have the advantage at WR vs their secondary, the question is can EJ get them the ball and not throw it in the dirt or 10 yards over their head? Also, if he can get them the ball accurately with their D line eating our O lines lunch, and Rex's scheme schooling our O coordinator like he has done in the past
YoloinOhio Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Also, if he can get them the ball accurately with their D line eating our O lines lunch, and Rex's scheme schooling our O coordinator like he has done in the past am I the only one who did not see either if these things the last time they played?
No Cease Fires Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Also, if he can get them the ball accurately with their D line eating our O lines lunch, and Rex's scheme schooling our O coordinator like he has done in the past Yeah, exactly like the last time we faced them.
YoloinOhio Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) EJ had a solid game, I wouldn't say banner day. Geno Smith was the reason we won that game. if geno was playing defense that day Id agree with you Edited August 23, 2014 by YoloinOhio
filthymcnasty08 Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 Both were far from championship caliber. But the Jets were insanely inconsistent, looking like world beaters one week, giving up career highs to EJ the next. Agreed ….but……both of us had Rookie QB's We had 3 and outs seemingly 75% of our drives and their guy was a turnover MACHINE. Both defenses were asked to make a lot of stops and were better than their stats would otherwise indicate.
FluffHead Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 am I the only one who did not see either if these things the last time they played? Yes the bills were good against NY in the second game last year. However: 3-9 against them since 2008. In the loss last year EJ was terrible and our O line gave up a bajillion sacks. Chalk it up to homerism if you didn't see that.
Wayne Cubed Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 67 yards in a half is now a "gashing"? Jennings broke one for 23 to skew your YPC average. 44 yards on 12 carries is high 3's YPC + one big play. It doesn't matter if it was one big run, it still happened. You can't just subtract it. Can we just subtract out the 2 stops for a loss than? So now it's 10 plays and 44 yards. And yes 67 yards on 13 carries is big for a team that average 73 YPG last season. You think big ole twinkle toes is happy with that?
