WotAGuy Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Thanks for posting this. Although it may seem to some like a bad Saturday Night Live "short", this is a real problem. I sponsor a group of men in two different 12-step programs and I have seen first-hand how real this addiction is and how it devastates their families and the men themselves. 12-step Recovery is spiritually-based and this video is pretty much in line with the spiritual aspects of 12-step recovery.
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Not to make too much light of a serious topic, but this is too easy to pass up... One could say that a pornography addiction IS overcoming.

One could say that a pornography addiction IS overcoming. That IS funny! The link is: I sent the video link to one of my guys that suffers from this and this was his reply: "I got goosebumps on the back of my neck, that is totally me and how I feel. I had tears running down my face by the end. Thank you in a sincere way!" Edited August 21, 2014 by WotAGuy

WotAGuy Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Actually, wouldn't the "Ice Bucket Challenge" be more appropriate for pornography addiction? Treatment AND a fundraiser!

plenzmd1 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I fear this for my son all the time. He is 13, and growing up with on demand porn. No matter how many blocks we put in place, rules restrictions etc, i know that these kids can find it somehow, someway. He denies it, but i am not buying it. I talk to him all the time that porn is just like COD and any other video game, it is not real life, and it is not how a relationship works. It is just pure fantasy. He nods yes, he says i get it, but i know they will struggle with it as he gets older and starts t in relationships.

In all seriousness, think about how difficult that conversation would be for the parent of a girl growing up at a time when on demand porn is influencing the perception of the whole generation of guys she will be dating. It's kind of scary.

It's kind of scary. I do have a 15 year old daughter as well, and have similar talks with her. She just LOVES when i talk to her about sexting, and how boys think and view girls etc. Luckily, she is 15 going on 11 in many ways, no real interest in boys (outside of 1D) as school and swimming preclude any real dating time thank god!
truth on hold Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) I can understand how those conversations are both difficult and important with ones kids, but the woman in the video says "pornography today is a plague like we have never seen." lol ok ... this is worse than Black Death plague that killed at least 75 million Europeans? people looking at nude people has been around since beginning of time (we know this because if that didn't arouse people, we wouldn't have more people). Sure the Internet has made it more accessible to minors, but it's hardly the worst plague of all time. that woman is interjecting her own beliefs about nudity and the human body into the discussion Edited August 21, 2014 by Joe_the_6_pack

boyst Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 wanna teach your kids about sexting? look up Amanda Todd for starters. Or show them any of the sites dedicated to showing off pics that people were not supposed to share.
4merper4mer Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Shouldn't we merge this with the Lydia Loveless thread?
