NoSaint Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I'm not saying they should even get paid per se. Its my understanding that they always did it for free. I just see no logical reasoning to ask the band to pay for their services. There is legitimately no other job that you would ask this. Should the players pay because they are in the Super Bowl and have free advertising that they will use to immediately add endorsement deals the next day? (Obviously that last part is tongue in cheek and I realize it is not a direct correlation but figure I should put this on there before someone goes off) The fact that these people are potentially willing to pay should tell you a lot about the money earning potential. It's a live commercial not a concert at this point. Doritos risks their commercials flopping, nbc risks the game being a flop.... The artist risks their performance being a flop. If the nfls goal is to put on a world changing artistic performance, this wouldn't be how you do it - but it's not in the slightest is that what the nfl, or the record execs see when they look at that time slot. Unfortunately you are looking for artistic ideals- not the reality of this.
Clippers of Nfl Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Your writing is terrible, it makes my head hurt please take a class so you don't continue to look like an @ss then maybe people will take your posts seriously I'm not sure what your obsession with the enter key is, but this isn't funny, it's now just sad. Please refrain from posting until you learn how to use proper english and proper use of the enter key This is harsh man. I found his info to be very informative. Yeah it looks weird. But it has to be a cell phone. I personally do dislike the grammar police. If this was English101.com, then heck yeah, but this is a football forum. I cant speak for everyone but me I lost a lot of brian cells drinking, partying, and playing football. Yeah I'm pretty much a dumbass now. So my spelling is off sometimes. I dont really care and really, not one else should UNLESS THE ENGLISH WAS SO BAD YOU COULDNT UNDERSTAND IT. Ps. When it really matters, like a resume or your boring biography, then yeah good spelling, grammar, punctuation is a must. But here???? Actually I'm surprised there are so many perfects on a football forum.

(Obviously that last part is tongue in cheek and I realize it is not a direct correlation but figure I should put this on there before someone goes off) No logical reason other than freedom of choice? It sounds like you believe NFL is obligated to provide some act with a free venue in front of hundreds of millions of people every year. Last I checked, any artist was free to tell the NFL "no thanks". If no one is willing to pay to perform, I suppose the NFL will have to change its stance.
Clippers of Nfl Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 As a musician this disgusts me. Its getting more and more likely to be this way in the local scene too. These are musicians. This is their career. Pay the mto do what they do as they are providing entertainment value for you. What other line of work would you not get paid to do your job. Hey Jim, go balance our books. We aren't going to pay you but we'll be sure to tell all the other firms what a great job you did. That's called an internship. These are not interns. Also, I'm not a Coldplay fan but I appreciate their music. Would that not be the most depressing half time show ever though? I am. They rock. I even saw them once BYMYSELF. It was raining and someone cancelled on me. That's how good it is over here. People cancel for rain. Not a boring show at all. They dont play all their slow songs and when they do they liven them up. I sat next to a brit couple and thought it was going to be fun. The guy was sitting most of the time. His wife and me were bumping booties. Lol. Just kidding about the bumping booties with the wife or gf. We hi5 a little but that was about it.
NoSaint Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Yeah it looks weird. But it has to be a cell phone. while hes on a cellphone, its simply that he likes to hit return on it every couple of words. if he simply stopped hitting return, no one would pay attention. its that it looks like bad poetry that gets him so much grief. and i think he likes the attention, despite his protests.
Maybe Someday Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 get rid of half time shows and go to normal 12 minute break and get back to the game!! I agree with this. No need for some over the top faux concert. I bet very few people would change the channel no matter what was going on for halftime, even if they use that time to step away from the TV for a refill or whatever else.

Last I checked, any artist was free to tell the NFL "no thanks". If no one is willing to pay to perform, I suppose the NFL will have to change its stance. Very few acts and in particular good up and coming Indy rock acts have that type of money. And if their label or management pops for their " entry fee" it is simply a loan. Monster rock acts, dinosaurs or otherwise can care less. Their fan bases are secure in some cases for decades. No acts or very, very, few make anything significant from recording these days. So where or what is the benefit for paying to be on the tube, heavily censored for 12 minutes? so as long as the people who actually watch the halftime show can handle Rihanna, Jay Z or Madonna year after year. This will backfire. The greed of the NFL will bite them someday. The sooner the better. Some acts cost well North of a million to even stage a show. This is American corporate greed at it's best.
Canadian Bills Fan Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 But how many bids, will there be an NDA, are the bids non-binding first then binding ... so many questions hahahaha well done sir CBF

I doubt it. On the subject of halftime performers I do find it being too much greed from the nfl. They want money from the future tour dates??? Really?? If they charged a flat fee for playing, I could understand that for sure. Like 10 million if you want the half show. Sure that makes sense. But from their future tour is asking for too much.

Other than sounding funny, I'm not sure why it matters. And if he really didnt like the attention, I imagine he'd simply stop hitting return. It seems easy for everyone else. Certainly easier than fighting about it in every thread. Edited August 20, 2014 by NoSaint

Throw some music so the ladies dont get bored. If they got rid of the halftime show, it will become a "guy thing only" making the ladies abandon the sb parties. It gives the ladies something to judge and something that they understand. But who knows. Edit: Heck I love music. Put on a show period. It could be a big difference. If the 1% becomes 33 mill. Eff that. That's too much. Maybe he has some big ass hands. I dont know why anyone would prefer to argue UNLESS THEY LIKED IT. You may be on to something.

That's too much. ok - i just threw out a random number, much like i thought you were. I wasnt trying to hash out what the value is. i imagine capitalism would solve that problem - merely that whether its an up front, or cut from the back doesnt effect my perception. heck, if they bomb, the percentage could be less.... mainly, my point was that the companies can choose what they want to pay, and they can choose how they want to pay it, and it doesnt really bug me either way. if katy perry plays for free and her label gets the money instead of the nfl --- well, so what?
